PlayStation 4 Slams Xbox One With DRM And Online Announcement

PlayStation 4 slammed the Xbox One last night for its DRM and online aspects.

At E3 2013 last night, Sony slammed Microsoft’s efforts for a next generation console. Xbox One was announced in May to have DRM control and require an online connection, almost confirming what gamers had feared from leaked details earlier on. Those aspects of the Xbox One were proven over the weekend when Microsoft released an official statement that the console would require you to be online at least once a day, as previously reported by The Inquisitr .

For those not in the know, DRM stands for Digital Rights Management, or control over what media is being used where.

The reason Microsoft claims it is pushing the online connection issue is that it wants to make sure that the games you’re playing legally belong to you. In a world of piracy, this is probably the only way they could ensure nobody was making illegal copies. However, for the rest of us, it only ensures that used games would come with an extra fee to transfer ownership, depending on the publisher. Also, you would have to connect at least once a day just to play the games you own.

That wasn’t a smart move on Microsoft’s part, as they unknowingly handed the keys to the console war to Sony and Nintendo.

Sony announced last night that DRM would not be used to regulate your games on the PlayStation 4, allowing used games to be traded freely as they’ve always been. For those of us with a tight budget, this is great news. Alongside the price being $100 less than that of the Xbox One, the PlayStation 4 has become the console for gamers wanting to save money.

This is quite a turnaround after the last generation of consoles, where the PlayStation 3 was launched at an insanely high $600.

Sony also announced that the PlayStation 4 would not require an internet connection to function. However, as previously reported by The Inquisitr , PS Plus will be required for multiplayer games, but that’s not a big problem in all honesty.

It looks like Xbox One is going down as PlayStation 4 grabs the gamers on a budget.

What do you think of PlayStation 4 slamming Xbox One? Do you feel the DRM and online connection issues are a reason to abandon Microsoft’s console?
