When a plane goes off a runway, it is a dangerous event with varying results. On Saturday night, a Romanian plane carrying 46 passengers veered off the runaway and injured six passengers.
The aircraft was making a routine landing at Rome’s Leonardo da Vinci airport when it suddenly veered off the runway.
According to Reuters , two of the six injured passengers suffered concussions and were transported to a nearby hospital.
A senior official for Romania’s Carpatair airline told Italy’s Sky TG24-TV that all injuries sustained during the accident were non-life threatening.
Officials for the airline and airport are still unclear what caused the plane to go off the runway. Officials note that strong winds may have pushed the aircraft into the grass. The plane came to a stop on a slight incline and with damaged landing gear.
The aircraft in question is an ATR 72 turboprop, the same type of plane Carpatair flies out of Romania, Moldova, and the Ukraine.
Carpatair operates flights to Italy on behalf of Italian carrier Alitalia.
Officials are now investigating the cause of the crash. More information to follow as it is made available.
