Pit Bull Attacks Two Small Boys: Dog To Be Euthanized

A pit bull attacked two small boys in Indio, California, on Saturday night at approximately 7:30. The children were reportedly outside a friend’s Riverside County home when the animal escaped from temporary restraints at the house on Avenue 43, where the dog had been kept on a leash.

After getting loose, the dangerous pit bull bit an 11-year-old boy and a 5-year-old boy, reported The Desert Sun . Both boys were injured in the attack.

The 5-year-old boy sustained bite wounds on the back of his head. He was transported to a local hospital via ambulance for treatment. His 11-year-old companion suffered puncture wounds on his hands and stomach.

Officials have not released the current conditions of the two boys who were attacked by the pit bull , according to CBS News .

The Riverside County Department of Animal Services issued a written statement about the tragic incident. The department revealed that the pit bull has been surrendered to authorities, who plan to put the dog down.

“The owner of the dog surrendered him to Riverside County Animal Services for humane euthanasia.”

This wasn’t the first incident involving the same pit bull. The animal previously bit the owner’s son’s head. That attack took place in April of this year. At that time, Riverside County Animal Services placed the dog on a potentially dangerous dog restraining order.

The owner had taken precautions to put the dog on a leash and otherwise restrain it prior to the incident over the weekend. Unfortunately, those measures were insufficient to prevent another pit bull attack.

This particular dog breed frequently makes headlines, and most of those reports concern a pit bull attack similar to this one. However, another pit bull recently made front page news for a different reason.

As previously reported by The Inquisitr, a 34-year-old man left four dogs in crates inside a hot car without water or shade. The man was allegedly visiting his girlfriend in her apartment building during the hottest part of the afternoon when he left his pets in the sweltering vehicle.

Three of the dogs died before they could be rescued. The fourth dog, a pit bull nicknamed Della, was taken to a clinic in critical condition. The suffering animal was later euthanized.

Pit bulls are typically known for their stubborn, aggressive, and strong-willed temperament, but fans of the breed also point out that these animals are loyal, friendly, and affectionate. What do you think? Does the American pit bull terrier have a predisposition toward dangerous behavior?
