Pharrell did an interview (with his infamous hat) on Good Morning America on Tuesday about his happiness and renewed success.
Interestingly enough, it took the “ Happy ” artist 9 different tries before he finally was happy with the tenth. But it seems that the tenth time was the charm, as the single is now at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100. Not only in the U.S., but “Happy” has now reached No. 1 in 23 different countries. Pharrell said of his comeback:
I got to point zero and I just said to myself, ‘How do you make a song about a guy who is so happy and relentless in doing so?’ That’s when I realized that the answer had been sleeping in the question all along.”
Pharrell has been behind the scenes as a producer and lent his vocals to the likes of Beyoncé, Britney Spears, Shakira and Jennifer Lopez.
Some things you may not know about the 41-year-old artist is his role in “Rump Shaker,” the classic 90s hit performed by Wreckx-N-Effect. Pharrell was one of the writers of the song.
He also had a huge role in Britney Spears’ career. His production group, The Neptunes, collaborated with Miss Spears on her hit song, “I’m A Slave 4 U.”
And who can forget “Drop It Like It’s Hot?” Snoop Dogg (now Snoop Lion) enjoyed lots of success with that collaboration. Pharrell sang the first verse of the song while Snoop finished it up with the second and third verses. It topped the U.S. Billboard’s Hot 100 for three weeks in 2004.
Pharrell also wrote and produced Gwen Stefani’s “Hollaback Girl.” I think we all remember the first time we heard the unedited version of that song. Surprise surprise!
He was promoting his latest album, G.I.R.L., which contains “Happy” on Good Morning America and performed in his iconic Vivienne Westwood hat, a polka dotted yellow-sleeved jacket and dark wash denim jeans.
This comes on the heels of the news that Pharrell will be a voice coach on the seventh season of NBC’s The Voice. After the announcement, Pharrell tweeted:
This is going to be so fun.”
Fellow voice coach Adam Levine seemed to be just as excited as Pharrell. He tweeted back:
Welcome to the circus dude!”
Hopefully the up and coming artists can learn something from the hit singer. After all, he’s stepped back into the spotlight in a big way. It’s strange seeing lists of everything that Pharrell has been involved in. It’s one of those things that sort of slips your mind until he comes out with a colossal hit.
Pharrell doesn’t just collaborate with music artists, however. He recently debuted his Swarovski covered Adidas tennis shoes. He actually approached Swarovski and told them exactly what he wanted after being inspired by a design he saw somewhere else. A Swarovski spokesperson told Billboard:
He handpicked the size, shape and color of the crystals he was looking for and worked with our creative team to bring his idea to life.”
And the end result?
These diamond encrusted sneaks.
Looks like Pharrell has his hand in everything. 2014 is shaping up to be a big year for him, we can only hope it continues to make him “happy.”
