Paris Jackson was rushed to the hospital early Wednesday following a suicide attempt, and afterward a picture emerged of a young teenager seemingly depressed and struggling with the notoriety thrust upon her after her father’s death.
The 15-year-old daughter of Michael Jackson reportedly overdosed in her home in the early morning hours on Wednesday.
“We received a call at 1:27 in the morning. We transported a patient to the hospital at 1:47,” a Los Angeles Fire Department rep said. “We responded to a call of an overdose. That’s the kind of call we got.”
TMZ also reported that the 911 called stated that Paris Jackson had cut her wrists.
Debbie Rowe, mother of Paris Jackson, confirmed to ET that it was indeed a suicide attempt . Rowe added that Paris has had “a lot going on [lately].”
Kept away from the spotlight during her father’s life — Michael went so far as to cover his children’s faces in public — Paris Jackson has suddenly become a popular figure for tabloids since her father’s death in 2009.
The toll of her father’s death and the public trial that ensued seemed to be taking a toll on Paris. She publicly stated that she wanted to “karate chop” doctor Conrad Murray, who was convicted of prescribing her father the lethal overdose that ultimately killed him, in order to make him appear at the family’s trial.
The Jackson family was suing concert promoter AEG for $40 billion, claiming that the promoter hired Murray and forced Jackson to perform even though he suffered from fatigue and exhaustion.
“Paris wants to kick Murray’s butt,” a source told The Sun . “She wants him to explain what pressure he was under to make Michael perform. When she gives evidence she plans to tear him apart.”
Every move Paris Jackson made seemed to draw media attention. Just a few days after she joined her high school cheerleading team, the Philadelphia Eagles offered her an NFL cheering gig.
“We think Paris will make a great Eagle cheerleader,” said the club’s cheer director, Barbara Zaun. “We though that she had a lot of poise, confidence and enthusiasm in her cheer performance … Paris has that ‘wow factor’ that makes a great cheerleader.”
But the move was clearly for the squad’s publicity and not for Paris Jackson’s gain. The squad required cheerleaders to be older than 18.
In the hours before the suicide attempt, Paris Jackson made a series of tweets that seemed to hint at a growing sadness:
i wonder why tears are salty ?
