Outlander managed to score big at the 2016 People’s Choice Awards. Both the series and one of its stars, Caitriona Balfe , took home awards in separate categories. Unfortunately, despite a nomination for Favorite Sci-Fi/Fantasy TV Actor, Outlander star Sam Heughan did not take home an award.
According to Scotland Now , the series won the award for Favorite Cable TV SciFi/Fantasy Show at the ceremony, which was hosted at Los Angeles’ Microsoft Theater. Outlander won the award over some fairly tough competition that included Game of Thrones, American Horror Story, The Walking Dead and Teen Wolf.
For her part, Balfe won the prize for Favorite Sci-Fi/Fantasy TV Actress. Balfe portrays the part of Claire Fraser on the popular series, and managed to beat out Emilia Clarke, Jennifer Morrison, Lady Gaga, and Ginnifer Goodwin for the award.
While Outlandercertainly had a great night at the 2016 People’s Choice Awards, Heughan was unable to top the competition in his category. This is understandable, especially considering the other leading men the Scottish actor was pitted up against. This included the likes of Jensen Ackles, who won the award, David Tennant, Ian Somerhalder, and Misha Collins.
According to Design & Trend , Ackles and Somerhalder were the two favorite to win the award this year. Somerhalder is known for his part as Damon Salvatore on The Vampire Diaries . Ackles portrays the character Dean Winchester on The CW’s long-running series Supernatural .
Although fans are undoubtedly disappointed that Heughan failed to win an award this time around, the actor is currently busy launching another fitness campaign. According to the Scotsman , Heughan has officially started another round of his My Peak Challenge 2016.
The goal of Heughan’s campaign is to inspire people to reach their ultimate peak, both physically and intellectually. In order to accomplish this, different challenges are set to go down this coming May. The challenges are meant to encourage people to reach their own fitness goals while inspiring others to do the same.
The great part about My Peak Challenge 2016 is that all the proceeds go towards a blood cancer research charity named Bloodwise. In speaking about how he to come up with the idea, Heughan explained how his passion for the outdoors inspired him to create a program that motivated others to become more active in their lifestyles.
“I had this idea while working in Scotland. I love walking, climbing and being outdoors and I wanted to share that passion with all the friends and fans,” he shared. “There will be even more surprises in the future but for now I challenge you to make the first step with us and sign up today!”
Heughan first announced the startup of My Peak Challenge on Twitter . Fans who sign up for the fitness part of the challenge receive a special package for their donation. This includes a number of different fitness videos featuring Heughan, nutrition plans, and workout schedules. Also included in the package are a few autographed clothing items, wristbands, stickers, and a print of Heughan.
Meanwhile, with Heughan busy promoting his newest campaign, Outlanderhas another chance to take home some awards during the upcoming Golden Globes. Although Heughan was not nominated for a category, Outlanderwill be competing for Best Drama Series, while Balfe and Tobias Menzies are vying for the award for Best Drama Actress and Best Supporting Actor respectively.
Fans can watch and see if Outlander manages to win more awards when the Golden Globes air January 10. At the same time, the new season of Outlander is expected to premiere in the early spring of 2016.
