3.9 million tweets were generated during the premiere of One Direction’s movie, This Is Us, last night.
The hashtag #1DMoviePremiere, was set up to coincide with the glamorous event, which was held at London’s Leicester Square, and 1.9 million tweets appeared under this moniker.
Two million further tweets were created on the premiere itself. The band, which consists of Harry Styles, Niall Horan, Zayn Malike, Liam Payne, and Louis Tomlinson, appeared at the screening.
Around four thousand fans queued up to see their heroes, and they lined the streets surround the Empire Cinema in central London. They were even penned into designated areas to control the masses.
Some dedicated fans even lined up on the streets for three days, in order to get a view of their idols, and to hopefully hug, kiss, or simply get the autograph of their favorite member.
Harry Styles called the dedication of the fans, who are known as Directioners, “unreal,” and their efforts were so overwhelming that they almost brought London’s Underground transport to a stop.
However, critics were far from impressed by This Is Us, which showcased the rise to fame of Niall, Zayn, Liam, Harry, and Louis.
Digital Spy called the film “propaganda” and was simply an excuse to promote their brand, while The Hollywood Reporter suggested that the band’s behavior had been altered to maintain their image.
The website believes that footage of them partying, smoking, and misbehaving had been edited out.
A source also told The Mirror that Zayn Malik and his girlfriend, Perrie Edwards, are now engaged.
The insider remarked, “It was so romantic – Zayn popped the question over the weekend when they were alone together. It’s one of the first weekends they’ve spent with each other, as they’ve both been on tours with their bands. He wanted to wait for the perfect moment. All her bandmates were at V Festival, and she couldn’t wait to tell them. They’re all really excited for her, as the rest of One Direction are for Zayn.”
