Obamacare Scorned By IRS Employees Union

IRS agents are in charge of enforcing Obamacare on the America people, but they apparently don’t want it enforced on themselves.

The National Treasury Employees Union (NTEU), which represents about 100,000 IRS workers, is trying to launch an old-school letter-writing campaign to enable the workers to get a carve-out from Obamacare, officially known as the Affordable Care Act.. According to the Washington Examiner, union leadership is providing rank-and-file members with a form letter to send to Rep. Dave Camp, the House Ways and Means Committee Chair, that reads as follows: “I am very concerned about legislation that has been introduced by Congressman Dave Camp to push federal employees out of the Federal Employees Health Benefits Program and into the insurance exchanges established under the Affordable Care Act.”

In response to this effort, Rep. Camp’s spokeswoman said that “If the Obamacare exchanges are good enough for the hardworking Americans and small businesses the law claims to help, then they should be good enough for the president, vice president, Congress and federal employees.”

Organized labor a.k.a. Big Labor — in both the public and private sectors — ironically was one of the vocal constituencies lobbying for Obamacare when it was narrowly passed by Congress in late 2009 on a straight party-line vote when Democrats controlled both chambers. A number of unions have since concluded , however, that the law actually makes health insurance unaffordable . Over 1,000 unions and other politically connected organizations also received temporary waivers from the law’s provisions.

The Center for Public Integrity has reported that Internal Revenue Service union has provided strong financial backing for President Obama’s two national campaigns for office. “President Barack Obama collected more than $110,000 from employees of the Internal Revenue Service during his 2008 and 2012 campaigns — significantly more money than any other contemporary political candidate.” It has also been reported that IRS lawyers in particular donated to the Obama campaign over the Romney campaign by a ratio of approximately 20 to 1

According to the National Review, the IRS union distributes a lot campaign cash to congressional candidates too. The NETU “which represents 150,000 federal employees across 31 agencies, including the IRS. The union endorsed Obama in both of his presidential runs and operates a political-action committee (PAC) that has donated $1.63 million to federal candidates and committees since 2008, more than 96 percent of it to help elect Democrats. During that period, IRS employees have contributed more than $67,000 to the PAC.”

The IRS has since been engulfed in scandal involving political targeting of opponents of the Obama administration, including but no limited to leaking confidential information, as well as wasteful spending.

As far as the consequences of Obamacare itself, self-named “health ranger” Mike Adams recently offered this three-point summary on the Natural News website . “Obamacare is, at its core, anti-free-trade and monopolistic because it forces all Americans to buy a product that is only offered by a cabal of medical monopolists who prioritize profits over people… Secondly, Obamacare is causing health insurance prices to skyrocket nationwide, with 200% – 400% price increases being routinely reported… Such exploding costs will cause fewer and fewer Americans to be able to obtain even basic health care services such as routine checkups and early detection tests… Finally, Obamacare does nothing to provide for real disease prevention via nutrition or holistic strategies that stave off long-term disease treatment costs by investing in near-term prevention strategies.”

Does it surprise you that IRS workers want no part of Obamacare for their own health insurance coverage? Do you think it is healthy for our democracy that government unions give virtually their entire support to one political party?
