A North Carolina pastor outlined a disturbingly specific plan to rid the world of “queers and homosexuals” in a sermon earlier this month, the video of which has been making rounds in the blogosphere and social networks today.
The pastor is one Charles L. Worley of Providence Road Baptist Church in Maiden, North Carolina. Rather than sharing encouraging words or an uplifting sermon, Worley instead chose to dedicate his May 13th, 2012 Sunday morning service to Obama-bashing, which subsequently led him into his “idea” for homosexual extermination.
“I figured a way to get rid of all the lesbians and queers. Build a great, big, large fence… 150 or 100-mile-long… put all the lesbians in there… Do the same thing with the queers and the homosexuals and have that fence electrified so they can’t get out… And you know what, in a few years, they’ll die,” said Worley.
The pastor wrapped his sermon with the following thought: “God have mercy. It makes me pukin’ sick to think about… I don’t even whether or not to say this in the pulpit… can you imagine kissing some man?”
Though the video does not show the size of his congregation, several “amens” can be heard in response to his ideas, though most of the crowd seems to me at least to be increasingly ambivalent and hesitant to support the pastor’s cruel sentiments as the video goes on.
Thus far, response to the video has been largely negative, with one blogger saying, “How does this guy have a job? This type of bigotry is terrible, and to believe it is going on here in the states. Also, religious institutes cannot influence its congregation to vote a certain way in elections.”
With all of the attention afforded the gay community lately in light of President Obama’s public support of the cause of gay marriage, one can only wonder how long it will take similar videos to pop up and go viral.
Here’s the video of Worley’s “final solution”:
