In case you haven’t heard, Nintendo’s Super Mario Maker , released just nine days ago in the United States, is already a game-changer.

As reported by WiiU Daily , the new game helped double the Wii U console sales when Super Mario Maker was released in Japan on September 10. For the first time ever, this game allows users to create their own Super Mario levels to play and share with friends. In the first week alone, over 1 million user-created levels were uploaded for Super Mario . Given those numbers, one can assume that Super Mario Maker will break LittleBigPlanet ‘s record of 8 million community tracks uploaded, and will likely do it considerably quicker.

The new game allows users to create levels for four different installments of the Super Mario franchise: Super Mario Bros., Super Mario Bros. 3, Super Mario World, and New Super Mario Bros. U. Even with the ability to create for four different installments, there’s more in store for Super Mario aficionados.

Super Mario Maker was such an immediate hit that Nintendo has already announced plans for a downloadable content (DLC) stage for the latest release in the related Super Mario franchise, Super Smash Bros. for both the Wii U and the 3DS. Although the games use essentially the same characters, Super Smash Bros. and Super Mario Bros. are two drastically different games. While Super Mario Bros. (which produced arguably the most recognizable video game character since its release of the Nintendo Entertainment System) is a 2D action platformer, Super Smash Bros. is a fighting game, more similar in gameplay to something like the Mortal Kombat or Street Fighter franchises.

As explained by Venture Capital Post , this isn’t the first DLC available for the Super Smash Bros. , but it may be the most anticipated. Since Super Mario Maker is exclusive to the Wii U, this will be the first Super Mario custom stage creator for Nintendo 3DS. For an idea as to what it will look like when you’re creating your own stage for Super Smash Bros. (as opposed to how it looks in Super Mario Maker ), take a look at the trailer released by Nintendo:

Both the Wii U and 3Ds versions of the Super Mario Maker DLC for Super Smash Bros. are just $2.49 each. For those lucky enough to have both systems, you can get the add-ons bundled for just $3.49. The expected release date for the next big thing in the world of Super Mario is expected to be September 30.
