Nicole Kidman has become a victim of physical and emotional suffering on the set of HBO’s Little Big Lies . Kidman may have had numerous tough roles throughout her extensive acting career, but the rape scene on Little Big Lies reportedly took a serious toll on the actress, who turns 50-years-old later this month.
Spoiler alert!
The finale of Little Big Lies , which aired in April, showed a violent rape scene. And while many viewers complained the scene was painful to watch, for Nicole Kidman it was incredibly painful to film and get the brutal scene out of her mind.
Kidman, who has previously suffered from extreme bruising and physical pain on the set of HBO’s Little Big Lies , talked about her rage that stemmed from filming the finale rape scene in the miniseries.
During a roundtable with the Hollywood Reporter , Nicole Kidman opened up about feeling “humiliated” long after the cameras had stopped rolling when filming violent domestic abuse scenes on the show.
Kidman has previously admitted to taking pain medication after being heavily bruised on the set of Little Big Lies and revealed that, in addition to physical pain, she has also suffered from emotional pain from filming violent scenes with her on-screen husband, played by Alexander Skarsgard.
She opened up about an incident when she even threw a rock through a glass window at a hotel room as she was “obviously holding all that rage at what had been done” to her character. On the HBO miniseries, the one-time Oscar winner and four-time Oscar nominee plays retired lawyer Celeste Wright, who suffers from domestic abuse from her husband, Perry (Skarsgard).
Kidman’s Little Big Lies co-star Reese Witherspoon, who plays Madeline on the miniseries, recalled the moment she got an unusual call from Kidman, when the latter revealed she had thrown a rock through the window.
“We were staying at a hotel and she called me and she says, ‘I’ve just done the craziest thing.’”
It was just hours after Nicole Kidman had filmed one of TV’s most shocking sex scenes, and the 41-year-old told Witherspoon that she couldn’t get into her hotel room so she threw a rock through the glass windows.
“And she goes, ‘I don’t do stuff like that.’”

Kidman also opened up about feeling “humiliated,” “devastated,” and “angry” in the aftermath of filming the violent rape scene in the finale episode of Season 1.
The Oscar-winning actress recalled lying on the floor in her underwear and “having just been really thrown around.”
As she was lying on the floor, Kidman recalled how she literally “couldn’t get up” and “didn’t want to get up.” Little Big Lies director Jean-Marc even had to put a towel over her in between takes.
“I just felt completely humiliated and devastated. And angry inside.”
Nicole Kidman’s brutal experience on the set of Little Big Lies wasn’t easy on her husband, Keith Urban, either. Speaking to Vogue in March, the actress revealed that her husband of 11 years was distressed and “devastated” seeing his beloved one “covered in deep, massive bruises.”
“He was devastated seeing it but then he would say, ‘But I have an artist wife!’”

As it turns out, Nicole Kidman wasn’t the only Little Big Lies star to have been emotionally affected by the dramatic scenes and upsetting storylines. News Australia reported that co-star Reese Witherspoon also admitted to “losing her mind” during the relentless filming schedule.
“I started to scream, and I’ve never screamed like this. Like, howling. And instead of having this feeling — like, ‘Oh, my God, what did I just do?’ — all the women came over and said, ‘Girl, I have so been there.’”
Skarsgard, whose character is responsible for all the bruises as well as physical, emotional, and sexual abuse done to Nicole Kidman’s character, opened up to Vanity Fair in March how he had to give Kidman “a hug” to “shake off” all the intensity on the set of Little Big Lies .
“It was very important to reconnect after shooting those scenes. We made a point of checking in with each other, giving each other a hug.”
