Guillermo del Toro’s upcoming gothic horror film, Crimson Peak , has just released four new posters in preparation for its fall release. The posters, first released on Comicbook.com , feature haunting images of the film’s four main characters played by Mia Wasikowska ( Alice in Wonderland ), Tom Hiddleston ( The Avengers ), Jessica Chastain ( Zero Dark Thirty ), and Charlie Hunnam ( Pacific Rim ).
The horror movie revolves around a 19th century writer named Edith Cushing (Wasikowska) who marries Sir Thomas Sharpe (Hiddleston), only to find out that he is hiding some very dark secrets. Edith is pulled away to live with Sharpe and his sister, Lady Lucille (Chastain), in his childhood mansion — an ultra creepy and crumbling estate in the country — where she is caught inside a house that seems very much alive. At the same time, Dr. Alan McMichael (Hunnam) is a childhood love of hers that tries his best to warn her against Sharpe and his mansion.
The four Crimson Peak posters shed a little more light into what we can expect the characters to be like in the film. Based on the poster, Hiddleston’s complex and secretive character is really highlighted against his emerald green background, while Wasikowska looks like she is desperately trying to find something as an image of a ghost-like creature floats behind her.
Meanwhile, Chastain’s poster is the brightest of them all, as she appears in a deep red dress holding a candle stick.
Lastly, Hunnam’s poster is more mellow in tone and his characters looks like just an ordinary 19th century doctor.
With the release of the new posters and the trailer that was unveiled earlier this month, the movie promises to something new and unique for the horror genre. Naturally, it also has the potential to be a very scary, and high budget, flick. In fact, according to Slash Film , Stephen King himself stated that the movie was “just f**king terrifying.” That’s a pretty good endorsement coming from the king of the horror genre.
Legendary Pictures and Universal Pictures are set to co-produce the upcoming film, which is del Toro’s first venture into the horror genre. Del Toro’s previous works, including Pan ‘s Labyrinth, Hellboy, and Pacific Rim, have given him the mark as a master of creating dark and unique takes on old stories. If his genius shines through in his upcoming film, then Crimson Peak will not be one to miss.
Crimson Peak is scheduled for release on October 16, 2015.
