The NCIS: New Orleans team is officially growing for its second season, and considering how these two characters helped out in the first season – for one, it was definitely just a matter of when the announcement would come, not if – and the finale, it’s not at all surprising.
NCIS: NOLA was one of the first shows CBS picked up for another season for 2015-16. (The network renewed it and two other freshman dramas, Scorpion and Madam Secretary , back in January. The second season will premiere on Tuesday, September 22, at 9 p.m., remaining in that time slot behind the show that introduced it, NCIS (which is going into its 13th season after quite the cliffhanger to end its 12th , as the Inquisitr previously reported).
Deadline has reported that Shalita Grant (who plays Sonja Percy) and Daryl Mitchell (who plays Patton Plame, or Double P or Triple P, as he nicknamed himself) have both been promoted to series regulars for season 2 . Scott Bakula, Lucas Black, Zoe McLellan, Rob Kervovich and CCH Pounder will all be back as well.
Mitchell appeared in 11 episodes of the first season as Plame, an Investigative Computer Specialist, and with him now a regular for season 2, that has to mean more of his and Sebastian’s disagreements. As for Grant’s Sonja, the ex-ATF agent crossed paths with the team a few times in season 1 and does quite well undercover. However, in the finale, she wanted to join Pride and his NCIS team, which made her promotion to series regular a foregone conclusion.
That said, working a case or two with a team and joining one are two very different things, which could be why Deadline states that Percy, “who is used to – and most comfortable with – operating undercover and alone…will now have to adapt to work as the new NCIS Agent alongside Pride (Bakula) and his team.”
She was on the short list of those Pride trusted as the team worried about a mole, so it’s not surprising that she’s made it on his team as well.
In other NCIS: NOLA news, the season 1 DVD will be released on August 18 in a 6-disc set. The special features include audio commentaries (including one with Mark Harmon), deleted scenes, behind-the-scenes featurettes, like A Big Easy Success, Mardi Gras: The NCIS Way, Touring the Sets, The Write Angle, Strike Up the Band, How Rob Got the Job and more.
NCIS: New Orleans season 2 will premiere Tuesday, September 22 at 9 p.m. on CBS.
