The Dutch man who has served as an on-again, off-again suspect in the 2005 disappearance of American high school student Natalee Holloway has again confessed to disposing of her body, this time in a swamp, although he denies killing her.

The Atlanta Journal Constitution says:

…police don’t believe this account either.

Joran van der Sloot said in an interview with a Dutch tabloid journalist that he put Holloway’s body in a swamp but he did not kill her, according to news accounts. The television interview recorded last summer was not aired.

Van der Sloot has previously confessed to selling Holloway to a “man on a boat” for $10,000 and dumping her body into the Caribbean after the girl allegedly had a seizure and died. Van der Sloot recanted all previous confessions, saying each time he was trying to impress the person or persons to whom he confessed. Officials say that the man’s confessions do not tally with records regarding the Holloway’s disappearance:

Aruba’s chief prosecutor, Peter Blanken, characterized van der Sloot’s stories as “very unbelievable,” according to MSNBC. “The locations, names and times he gave just did not make sense.”

Holloway’s body has never been found, and her family concedes that it is “too late for Natalee.” Her mother has since become involved with organizations that work with Americans to avoid unsafe situations while traveling internationally.
