A new Nakoula Basseley Nakoula photo shows the beleaguered filmmaker behind Innocence of Muslims minus the disguise he used in an attempt to hide his identity as he was escorted from his Southern California home by police.

The movie, which very crudely portrays the prophet Muhammad as a sexual predator, has sparked riots in Egypt and Libya, where attackers claimed the lives of four Americans including ambassador Chris Stevens. Since then the anti-American protest have spread to other parts of the Middle East and even into Africa and Asia.

The original Nakoula Basseley Nakoula photo was taken as police led the filmmaker away from his home for questioning, Movie Line reported . The 55-year-old Coptic Christian covered his face with a white scarf and wore a newsboy’s cap pulled down in an attempt to hide his face.

But his attempts were for naught, as both the New York Daily News and the New York Post ran Nakoula Basseley Nakoula photos without the disguise.

As the Nakoula Basseley Nakoula photo was unveiled, so too were more details about the man behind Innocence of Muslims . Court documents obtained by The Smoking Gun found that he was once a federal informant, cooperating with investigators during a bank fraud case that took place between 2009 and 2010.

During the investigation Nakoula implicated some of the others involved in the crime in order to receive a lesser prison sentence himself. It was also revealed that Nakoula had been arrested for making meth in the past.

The Nakoula Basseley Nakoula photo could also get the filmmaker in trouble if it leads to his wherabouts. A warrant has been issued for his arrest in Egypt , with charges of harming national unity and insulting Islam and spreading false information.
