A 44-year-old mother and her 25-year-old son, both from North Carolina, have been arrested for engaging in sexual activity.
Melissa “Missy” Kitchens and her son, Shaun Thomas Pfeiffer, who is married, are both facing a felony charge of incest.
Kitchens was arrested on September 7 while Pfeiffer, who resides in Weaverville, was arrested a day later.
Arrest documents state that Kitchens and Pfeiffer had sex with each other in August. No information has been released on how the incest allegations came to light.
Pfeiffer, who is listed on Facebook as “married” and “self-employed,” also faces charges of being intoxicated and disruptive, communicating threats, and indecent liberties with a child.
His Facebook account shows that he is a father of a toddler son.
As reported by Daily Mail, Shaun Pfeiffer seems to be living with both his mother and his wife Shannon Roman in Asheville.

He had recently posted a photo of his mother on Facebook. It is unclear whether Kitchens is married.

In a Facebook photo posted in January 2015, Shaun posted a photo of himself with his toddler son. Kitchens left a lengthy comment where she wrote, “Can’t get over how handsome you are.”
Kitchens also hinted that the family had been embroiled in some conflict in the past.
“Just trying To Brighten The Mood—- Things are Very Stressful and I Love You and I Respect Any Decision— As Long as your Happy and Safe………. I miss you& wish I had more time w you…… Your Very Valuable and Hopefully The Stresses—- Will get better,” she wrote.
It appears that Pfeiffer’s relationship with his wife Shannon Roman had been through some tough times if her Facebook post last month is any indication.

“When you truly care for someone, their mistakes never change your feelings because it’s the mind that gets angry but the heart still cares,” Shannon wrote.
Pfeiffer is being held on a $70,000 bond, while Kitchens’ has been set at $30,000, according to the Buncombe County Jail’s website.
Shaun is set to appear before the court on September 30, while Melissa’s court date is September 29.
Reports of incest, while shocking, are pretty common around the world, and there are even some cases where the parties involved have gotten married.
Just a week ago the Daily Star reported about a mother, Patricia Ann Spann, and her daughter, Misty Spann, who got charged for up to 10 years in prison for getting illegally married earlier this year.
And it gets worse, for investigators later found out that that same mother had married her son in 2008.
The son filed for annulment 15 months later, citing “incest” in a police affidavit.
Marrying a close relative, whether or not there is sex involved, is considered incest under Oklahoma law in the US.
Neither Patricia nor her daughter had an attorney when they appeared at court.
The police learned of the marriage last month as they carried out a child welfare investigation.
Last month, a 36-year-old mother and her 19-year-old son were faced with incest allegations that could put them in jail for 18 months.
The unlikely couple, however, insisted that they are “ madly in love ” and are willing to risk everything to protect their relationship, as reported by Daily Star
Monica Mares gave Caleb up for adoption when she was just 16 years old.
Last Christmas, they looked for each other on Facebook before the relationship took off.
In an interview with Daily Mail , Caleb said that he fell for Monica partly because she took care of him.
“I never had anyone cook me meals or give me anything.
“I never got anything my entire life and she went out of her way to make me happy.
“After about a week or so I started having feelings for her and I guess I fell in love.”
