It’s not always a perfect day in paradise, as proven by a road rage video recorded by Hawaii resident Ryan Arakaki, in which a woman is shown tailing Arakaki, eventually revving her car side by side in order to verbally berate Arakaki for cutting her off.
The incident began near Pearl Harbor, when Arakaki says the woman wasn’t paying attention at a stop, causing him to drive around her. When the woman, named Kimberly Ong, tried to drive forward, she nearly got into an accident with Arakaki. She then tailed him for five or six minutes, eventually making it to Moanalua Shopping Center where she began honking her horn. Arakaki began recording her with his cell phone, unsure of what was going to happen next, but suspecting that road rage was possible.
“She tried to ram her car into me or intimidate me. She actually would have probably hit me if I didn’t veer out of the way,” Arakaki told Hawaii news station KHON .
In the video, Ong’s young son can be seen in the front seat as she screams at Arakaki out the window. She then speeds up the driveway at the shopping center, stopping at an intersection before leaving the vehicle and her son, who screams, “Mom!” as she opens the door, to continue her verbal accosting of Arakaki, even going so far as to taunt him like a grade school child with calls of “Fat boy!” as he drove away.
Ong’s road rage has gone viral, causing local news stations to pick up the story. According to KITV , who spoke with Ong over the phone, she describes herself as being “super super angry” and says that Arakaki was taunting her, making the situation worse. She says she doesn’t 100 percent regret it.
As for Arakaki, he’s filed a police report about the incident. The case has been classified as unauthorized entry into a motor vehicle. “I think [she] was trying to whack the phone out of my hand. But yeah, she reached into my vehicle, hit my hand and on the video, you can see my hand jerk back,” said Arakaki.
Road rage is a prevalent problem around the world and can sometimes turn deadly. Earlier this week, a 43-year old father was shot after a driver he approached pulled out a gun and shot him in cold blood.
