Mitt Romney Secret Tape: Obama Voters Dependent On Government, Not My Job To Worry About Them [Videos]

Mitt Romney has remained mostly on point during his public campaign appearances, painting himself as the businessman who knows what it takes to turn the economy around where Obama has failed.

But a new video obtained by Mother Jones taken a a private fundraiser earlier this year shows a different Mitt Romney, one who dismisses Obama voters as “freeloaders who pay no taxes, who don’t assume responsibility for their lives, and who think government should take care of them,” the report notes.

When one of the potential donors asked Romney what he really thought of Obama voters, the answer was candid:

There are 47 percent of the people who will vote for the president no matter what. All right, there are 47 percent who are with him, who are dependent upon government, who believe that they are victims, who believe the government has a responsibility to care for them, who believe that they are entitled to health care, to food, to housing, to you-name-it. That that’s an entitlement. And the government should give it to them. And they will vote for this president no matter what…These are people who pay no income tax.

Amazingly, Mitt Romney appeared to give up any hope of reaching these voters or representing their needs, saying “[M]y job is is not to worry about those people. I’ll never convince them they should take personal responsibility and care for their lives.”

Mitt Romney that his campaign has a chance to win over women voters, but probably won’t have as much luck with African-American and Hispanic voters.

“[I[f the Hispanic voting bloc becomes as committed to the Democrats as the African American voting block has in the past, why, we’re in trouble as a party and, I think, as a nation,” he noted.

Romney also tipped off a bit of strategy from the campaign, saying they didn’t want to use his wife Ann Romney in events too much so people “didn’t get sick of her.”

The Mother Jones revelations come as Romney’s campaign is already reeling several setbacks, including criticism of the way he handled remarks about anti-American protests. Conservatives have also become more vocal in their criticism of Mitt Romney, calling on him to take a more aggressive approach against President Obama.

Bloomberg ‘s Josh Barro think Mitt Romney’s secret tape will be the nail in his campaign coffin.

He writes :

You can mark my prediction now: A secret recording from a closed-door Mitt Romney fundraiser, released today by David Corn at Mother Jones, has killed Mitt Romney’s campaign for president.

This is an utter disaster for Romney.

Romney already has trouble relating to the public and convincing people he cares about them. Now, he’s been caught on video saying that nearly half the country consists of hopeless losers.

Romney has been vigorously denying President Obama’s claims that his tax plan would raise taxes on the middle class. Now, he’s been caught on video suggesting that low- and middle-income Americans are undertaxed.

Any hope Republicans may have had of the Mitt Romney secret tape remaining that way will be disappointed. Within a few hours of its release the tape was already the top headline on The Huffington Post , and writer David Corn of Mother Jones said there is still more to come.
