Missouri State Representative Mike Leara introduced a bill that would make it a felony to propose gun control bills. The Republican statesman’s bill would charge members of the general assembly who submitted such legislation with a Class D felony. The anti-gun control bill is known as HB 633.
A Class D felony carries a possible 4-year prison sentence, according to the Los Angeles Times . Although Missouri HB 633 may sound a bit extreme to some, the bill follows an equally far-reaching piece of legislation introduced by Democrats last week. The Missouri gun control bill penned by Democrats would give law-abiding gun owners 90 days to turn in their firearms. Law-abiding gun owners who refused to relinquish their weapons would become felons, The Blaze notes.
Representative Leara does not think the anti-gun control bill will actually pass. He noted that he introduced the legislation primarily to make a point. The Missouri State Representative had this to say about HB 633:
“It’s outrageous, [Democrat bill] I have received an overwhelming response about 100 to 1 to stop this legislation. I filed HB 633 as a matter of principle and as a statement in defense of the Second Amendment rights of all Missourians. I have no illusions about the bill making it through the legislative process, but I want it to be clear that the Missouri House will stand in defense of the people’s Constitutional right to keep and bear arms.”
The gun control bill authored by Democrats would legislate possibly the most strict gun laws in the nation if passed. Details about the bill posted on the Missouri House of Representatives website include the removal of all assault weapons and large capacity magazines from the state. The assault weapons would be rendered permanently inoperable by the owner or turned over to law enforcement for destruction.
Do you think the gun control bill proposed by Democrats infringes upon Second Amendment rights?
