Miley Cyrus’ “Wrecking Ball” is reportedly the most popular music video of 2013.
The singer might have her fair share of critics and detractors at the moment, but that didn’t stop the singer from generating a serious amount of views this year. According to the folks at VEVO, “Wrecking Ball” was reportedly watched by more people than any other music video over the past 12 months.
So how many views did Miley Cyrus’ “Wrecking Ball” generate over the course of 2013? Judging from the numbers over at the clip’s official page on YouTube, the music video was watched over 388.7 million times. Considering the official video didn’t arrive until September 9, that’s some deeply impressive traffic.
Since Miley Cyrus is keen on conquering the entire world with her music, the clip for “We Can’t Stop” is the year’s second most popular video. The official VEVO release of the tune was watched approximately 301 million times. Again, the video didn’t arrive online until late in the year. Apparently Cyrus is someone people just love to hate.
Also on this year’s most-watched list are will.i.am and Britney Spears’ “Scream & Shout,” Rihanna’s “Diamonds,” and Katy Perry’s “Roar.”
Although the singer didn’t receive any nominations at the 56th Grammy Awards, Cyrus is still an insanely hot commodity at the moment. Billboard reports that “Wrecking Ball” found its way back to the top of the Hot 100 thanks to the popularity of a parody. This effectively knocked Lorde’s “Royals” from the top spot after nine weeks of dominance.
Speaking of that Miley Cyrus “Wrecking Ball” parody, the whole thing was put together by comedian Stephen Kardynal. The guy uses Chatroulette, a program that connects random webcam enthusiasts, to prank unsuspecting viewers by lip-synching pop songs by female artists. Believe it or not, his “Wrecking Ball” clip is hilarious.
Kardynal’s parody has amassed 73 million views as of this writing. Have a look.
In other Miley Cyrus-related news, the singer recently made an appearance at KISS FM’s Jingle Ball in Los Angeles on Friday. Since the girl is know for her questionable twerking skills, she made a point to perform the move on none other than Santa Claus. She also posted an image of Twitter holding the guy’s candy cane.
