Miley Cyrus has scored a big viral hit thanks to her SNL performance of a parody song titled “We Did Stop (The Government). The song is a parody of her own hit “We Can’t Stop.”
While the 20-year-old pop star may not be the most vocal Hollywood-type when it comes to politics, she did a good job of playing Michelle Bachmann next to Taran Killam’s role as House Speak John Boehner.
In the music video parody Miley Cyrus sings:
“It’s our party, we can stop what we want, we can vote how we want, defund what we want… Red states and sweaty bodies everywhere, bill’s in the house like we don’t care, ’cause we came to shut it all down now, no government around now. If you’re not ready for health care, can I get a “hell no!” ‘Cause we’re gonna keep it out shut down, D.C.is a closed town all around.”
Along with that performance Miley Cyrus served as the shows musical guest as she sang her ballad “Wrecking Ball” and a three-guitar acoustic version of “We Can’t Stop.”
Perhaps because of her turn as a political satirist, the former Hannah Montana star dressed more conservatively than she has in recent months. Of course, dressing in anything after the “Wrecking Ball” music video is a step up for Cyrus.
So was the “We Did Stop (The Government)” single a big hit? Early viewer reactions on Twitter have been very positive. Here are a few viewer reactions:
Gotta admit: Miley Cyrus as a slutty Michelle Bachmann in the SNL parody video of “We Can’t Stop” about the gov’t shutdown is pretty funny.

I don’t know if I can say “We Did Stop” is a better song than “D!ck in a Box,” but, the video was AWESOME #SNL

Between the “We did stop (the government)” video and last week’s Arcade Fire special, is #SNL punk again?

There really is no stopping Miley Cyrus at this point in her career.
