Miley Cyrus has gone topless for Rolling Stone . Naturally, her perpetual, dog-tongue pose makes an appearance. But it’s what that tongue has to say about Justin Bieber, Kanye West, US gender politics and sexual morality, and her take on the VMA’s that’s making the headlines.
Offering her 20-year-old advice to Bieber, the new queen of Twerk told the magazine the pair only hung out a little, adding :
“I’m not much older than him, so I never want it to feel like I’m mentoring him. But I do mentor him in a way. Because I’ve been doing this s**t for a long time, and I already transitioned, and I don’t think he’s quite done it yet…”
Miley went on to say she was concerned Justin may not make the same credibility jump she thinks she has made.
“He’s trying really hard,” said the songstress. “People don’t take him seriously, but he really can play the drums, he really can play guitar, he really can sing. I just don’t want to see him f**k that up, to where people think he’s Vanilla Ice. I tell him that. Like, ‘You don’t want to become a joke. When you go out, don’t start shit. Don’t come in shirtless’.”
Cyrus continued: “But the thing is, I think boys are, like, seven years behind [females] So in his head, he’s really, like, 12.”
The singer also shared her views on those who slammed her MTV Video Music Awards twerk-fest with Robin Thicke.
“No one is talking about the man behind the ass. It was a lot of ‘Miley twerks on Robin Thicke,’ but never, ‘Robin Thicke grinds up on Miley.’ They’re only talking about the one that bent over. So obviously there’s a double standard.”
Offering a return barb to Brooke Shields, who played Miley’s mom on Hannah Montana and called her VMAs antics “desperate,” Cyrus cites Shields’ Blue Lagoon movie “where she was a prostitute at age 12!”
Cyrus insists her VMAs spot wasn’t her “trying to be sexy” or an ode to minstrelsy but admits it was a tamer version of what could have been unleashed.
“Honestly, that was our MTV version,” she tells the magazine . “We could have even gone further, but we didn’t. I thought that’s what the VMAs were all about! It’s not the Grammys or the Oscars. You’re not supposed to show up in a gown, Vanna White-style. It’s supposed to be fun!”
Offering her take on America’s moral landscape, our-lady-in-state-of-perpetual-undress declares:
“America is just so weird in what they think is right and wrong. Like, I was watching Breaking Bad the other day, and they were cooking meth. I could literally cook meth because of that show. It’s a how-to. And then they bleeped out the word ‘f**k.’ And I’m like, really? They killed a guy, and disintegrated his body in acid, but you’re not allowed to say ‘f**k’? It’s like when they bleeped ‘molly’ at the VMAs. Look what I’m doing up here right now, and you’re going to bleep out ‘molly’? Whatever.”
Clearly pleased as punch by her post-VMAs team-up with West on a remix of “Black Skinheads,” Cyrus only had praise for Yeezus. It turns out West visited Miley before her she took to the stage at the VMAs after having seen her rehearsals because he wanted to talk to her beforehand.
Proudly, she recalled: “He came in and goes, ‘There are not a lot of artists I believe in more than you right now.’” She adds : “The whole room went quiet. I was like, ‘Yo – can you say that again?!’ I just kept repeating that over and over in my mind, and it made me not nervous.”
The pair have since bonded over fur Céline slippers and West texted her the day after the VMAs to gush about how he couldn’t “quit” thinking about her performance.
She describes the rapper as “the s**t,” before adding, “I kind of have a good relationship with him now. It’s good to have someone you can call and be like, ‘Yo, do you think I should wear this?’ ‘Do you think I should go in the studio with this guy?’ ‘Do you think this is cool?’ That’s what homies are supposed to do.”
Down one fiance and herself a polarizing, joke figure to many, Cyrus says she is often stuck at her Toluca Lake home. “I call myself Rapunzel with a mohawk. Standing by my window, looking at the paparazzi, just wanting to leave the crib.”
