Miley Cyrus expressed what might appear to be anti-Semitic sentiments in an interview timed with the release of her new album Bangerz .
The twerking pop star, 20, suggested that old Jewish executives who she claimed are running the music industry are out of touch with what the audience really wants.
In an interview with Hunger TV , Cyrus said in part, “With magazines, with movies, it’s always weird when things are targeted for young people yet they’re driven by people that are like 40 years too old. It can’t be like this 70 year old Jewish man that doesn’t leave his desk all day, telling me what the clubs want to hear.”
Added the former Hannah Montana star: “I know when you’re in a club, what makes everyone go crazy and when the time is where everyone’s like ‘alright I’m going go get a drink’. I know when people walk off the dance floor and I know what’s driving it so I’ve got to be the one doing it because they’re just not in on what 20 year olds are doing.”
Commenting on Cyrus’ remarks, the Jerusalem Post quipped that “It seems impossible that Miley Cyrus could put her foot in her mouth, what with that enormous tongue she’s always sticking out taking up so much room in there. Somehow, though, the pop star has gone and done exactly that.”
In a recent appearance on the Today Show , Cyrus informed host Matt Lauer that people over 40 don’t have sex anymore.
Separately, former Eurythmics singer Annie Lennox publicly recommended that Miley Cyrus and other female music industry artists should take their young impressionable fans into consideration before they participate in what amounts to “soft porn” videos.
Could her highly publicized wild behavior and bad role modeling be just a form of marketing? In the interview, Cyrus also admits that “At the end of the day I want people to buy my records, it isn’t about thinking just about this two minute performance on VMAs or this music video. I want people to want to hear my records and the more that they’re wondering what the hell is she doing, the more they’re going to want to listen to my record.”
Do you think the Miley Cyrus remarks about “older” Jews are offensive and discriminatory, and should she issue an apology?
