Miley Cyrus Leads Poll For Time Magazine’s Person Of The Year

Pop diva Miley Cyrus leads an informal poll for the much coveted Time Magazine’s Person of the Year title.

Each year, the magazine names the most influential person of the year, for better or worse.

The Person of the Year can be a person, group, or object that has most influenced the news in a particular year.

Miley Cyrus, who just turned 21-years-old, has certainly made headlines in 2013, especially during the latter part of the year. She shocked the world with her eyebrow raising performance at the MTV Music Video Awards in October, and It seems we can’t stop talking her antics.

Miley is the gift that keeps on giving for the news business, and we can always count on young Ms. Cyrus on a slow day.

As of Wednesday, November 27, the “Wrecking Ball” singer leads Time’s online poll with 28 percent of the votes, followed by Indian politician Narendra Modi and Edward Snowden with 13 percent each.

The three front runners in the poll lead dozens of other luminaries, including entertainers and Hollywood stars, world leaders, sports figures and politicians.

A couple of computer programmers claim they have found a way to vote for Miley Cyrus multiple times in an effort to discredit the magazine.

However, Time told the folks at Mashable they are aware of the tactics:

“Aware of the efforts to affect the results of the Person of the Year poll, and have measures in place so that only legitimate votes are being incorporated in the final tally (Dec. 6)… We’re delighted that so many people are having fun with this informal poll and contributing to the conversation (about who should win).”

The controversial singer has certainly influenced the news in the past few months, and ultimately, the person or group chosen will be named by the magazine’s editors. When it is all said and done, the poll is only for fun.

So what does Miley Cyrus think of all this? As usual, being an avid social media user, she took to Twitter to encourage fans to keep voting for her and retweeting what a potential cover might look like.

Her fans are definitely enthusiastic about the prospect of their idol being named Person of The Year.

The results of the online poll will be announced on December 6, and the Time Person of the Year will be chosen by the editors on December 11.
