First Lady Michelle Obama is headed for splitsville from hubby, President Barack Obama.
At least, that is the latest claim from the National Enquirer, which is hitting newsstands Thursday. Of course, this is not the first time that The Enquirer has published this claim about the State of the First Couple. It’s also not the first time the supermarket tabloid has made outlandish and unsubstantiated claims about famous figures.
While the weekly paper has had a checkered history, including a number of lawsuits claiming stories were false or untrue, it has often proven to be correct. Indeed, In 2010 there was some speculation that The Enquirer might actually receive a Pulitzer Prize for its investigation of presidential hopeful, John Edwards.
Although circulation has dropped from a peak of 6 million – mainly due to the proliferation of online competitive sites — it still has one million faithful readers, and continues to come out with “exclusives” like the Michelle Obama story.
The latest one alleges that he Obamas will remain together only until the end of the president’s term of office in 2016. To back up the claim, it says that the Obama’s recently viewed a $5 million property in Palm Springs, which they could share – but with separate bedrooms!
The Enquirer report says that the First Couple spent Father’s Day together in Palm Springs where they found a “lavish home” that could be their “first purchase on the road to separation.”
An anonymous source, supposedly close to the couple, said:
“Even after the split, they plan to maintain family ties and are considering buying the house. It’s a ‘neutral’ place so they can all meet there despite Michelle and Barack’s differences. The Obamas learned of the lavish Rancho Mirage residence when they visited the area over the Father’s Day holiday with daughter Malia.”
As further confirmation of the true nature of the relationship, it was said that Barack left the family on Father’s Day in favor of a five-hour golf outing at a private course. That same weekend the President spent most of the Saturday at a Democratic fundraising event in Laguna Beach followed by a commencement speech in Irvine at the University of California. Then came more golfing once he returned to Palm Springs.
The Enquirer says it was the first paper to report that Barack and Michelle Obama’s marriage was on the rocks. It now alleges the First Lady has already met with divorce lawyers.
The plan is supposed to be that, in 2016, Barack will return to his native Hawaii, and Michelle will stay in Washington, D.C. The five-bedroom, 8,000 square-foot Rancho Mirage estate will be used when they need family time.
The source added: “During visits they can all feel at home there, and neither the President nor Michelle will feel they’re invading the others’ turf.”
And, if the thought of being with Michelle Obama is not a sufficient attraction – the house has its own tunnel direct to a golf course!
