Four years ago, Michelle Obama stepped out with her husband Barack in a Jason Wu designed dress for the presidential inauguration in 2009. The first lady chose another Wu dress, this time in red, for the inaugural ceremonies this evening.
The president introduced his date tonight, saying:
“Some may dispute the quality of our president, but nobody disputes the quality of our first lady.”
According to USA Today , this is the first time that a designer has been chosen for two inaugural balls by the first lady since Nancy Reagan wore James Galanos’ dresses during the 1980s. And Michelle doesn’t reserve Wu dresses for Inaugural balls. The First Lady has also worn a few of the designer’s low-end dresses that are sold at Target stores .
On Sunday, the first lady wore a Reed Krakoff dress as she stood beside the president as he was sworn in for his second term . Later in the day she changed into a stunning black sequin Michael Kors boat neck dress.
There was a lot of attention on Michelle Obama and her dress tonight but the first lady wasn’t too worried about the flashing cameras.
Just danced to “Let’s Stay Together” with the love of my life and the President of the United States. I’m so proud of Barack. –mo
