Michael Jordan married longtime girlfriend Yvette Prieto in an affair so big, it required a tent larger than the NBA legend’s mansion.
The NBA Hall of Famer got engaged in 2011 to the former model, and the two finally tied the knot on Saturday in West Palm Beach, Florida.
The affair was anything but modest. The ceremony itself took place at an Episcopal church called Bethesda-by-the-Sea, the same place where Donald Trump and Melania tied the knot back in 2005. Jordan had tour buses bring the 500 guests in to the event, but the festivities later in the day would grow even larger.
Another 1,500 people were invited to the reception after Michael Jordan married. It was held at Bears Club, a golf course community designed by Jack Nicklaus near the new mansion Jordan built . It all took place inside of a massive tent.
Just how big was it? The website JeffRealty.com grabbed some aerial shots, detailing a reception venue the size of a small arena. The tent itself was 40,000 square feet, which is 5,000 square feet more than Jordan’s mansion. Just the sound system alone took up for semi-trailers, and a band spent all day Friday rehearsing for the wedding.
“They’ve been planning for months and months,” a source said about Michael Jordan’s wedding. “He wanted to give Yvette everything she’s ever wanted.”
Jordan isn’t exactly living the simple life in his retiring from playing. Now a part-owner of the Charlotte Bobcats, Jordan has been on a bend of buying and renovating mansions. His new abode in Jupiter, Florida, has 11 rooms and a full-size home theater complete with special equipment to handle massive amounts of cigar smoke, TMZ reported .
In February Jordan bought another home, a $2.8 million lakeside mansion near Charlotte.
As Michael Jordan marries, he has a chance to move past what was a bitter and costly divorce. In 2006 he split with longtime wife Juanita in a divorce that Forbes estimates to have cost him more than $150 million .
