Match Preview
One of the greatest rivalries in English football between two Merseyside teams, Everton and Liverpool, is set to happen at the Goodison Park on Monday in the Premier League.
Liverpool has started this season with flying colors as the Reds are in the second place of the Premier League table with 34 points.
With only six points behind league leader Chelsea, Jurgen Klopp’s men have established themselves as one of the major contenders to win the Premier League this season.
Everton, on the other hand, has faltered significantly after having a tremendous start to the season. The Toffees have won mere one of their recent six games in the Premier League, and they reside in the eighth place of the league table with 23 points.
Liverpool has always dominated their counterpart whenever they have clashed against each other. On six previous games between these sides, Liverpool has two, while the remaining four matches ended as a draw.
Team News: Everton
Few injury concerns reside on Ronald Koeman’s team. Yannick Bolasie will miss the rest of the season due to an ACL injury he picked in their 1-1 draw with Manchester United.
Muhamed Besic and Matthew Pennington are also ruled off the match due to their knee and hamstring injuries, respectively.
Phil Jagielka is also set to miss this derby due to suspension. Romelu Lukaku, who is the top scorer for Everton with nine goals, will be the key player for the Toffees as they aim to win this derby.
Everton: Starting Line-up (4-3-3)
Stekelenberg – Coleman, Mori, Williams, Baines – Gueye, Barry – Barkley, McCarthy, Deulofeu – Lukaku
Team News: Liverpool
Jurgen Klopp’s biggest concern is the fitness of his best player Phillippe Coutinho. The Brazilian isn’t expected back until 2017 after suffering an ankle injury in a match against Sunderland. Divock Origi is likely to start the match on Monday.
Daniel Sturridge is ruled out of this clash due to a calf injury. Midfielders Marko Grujic and Danny Ings also won’t start the match due to a knock and a knee injury, respectively.
German midfielder Emre Can was absent in 3-0 win over Middlesbrough due to a knee injury, and he is likely to miss this derby as well.
Simon Mignolet was handed responsibility between the posts in the last match. He probably will continue in the goalkeeper’s role for the Kopites again.
Liverpool: Starting Line-up (4-3-3)
Mignolet – Lovren, Matip, Clyne, Milner – Henderson, Wijnaldum, Lallana – Origi, Mane, Firmino
