Meredith Kercher’s death was not only directly caused by Amanda Knox and then Italian boyfriend, Raffaele Sollecito, but according to Italian Judges, Amanda Knox dealt the final blow to Meredith Kercher making her impending death inevitable.
The 2007 murder that held the world captive and initially found Amanda Knox guilty initially, but was overturned in appeals court, making Knox not guilty for the murder of Meredith Kercher found its way back into Italian Courts as the country’s court system insisted on taking a second look at the murder.
Documents released on January 30 show that Italian judges found evidence of “two different weapons” present on the neck wounds of Meredith Kercher. Continuing,
“The court believes the knife which produced the injury on the left side of the victim’s neck where the greatest amount of blood flowed and caused the death of Meredith Kercher was held by Amanda Knox.”
Meredith Kercher, 21 at the time, is from Croydon, UK, and was found dead in the flat which she shared with Amanda Knox, a student from Seattle, WA.
It is believed that Knox and Kercher fought over money the night of the murder, and that Meredith interrupted Ms. Knox and Sollecito during an intimate moment to complain about a vagabond who had been staying in the flat for a few days, Rudy Guede.
According to most recent reports, the theory is that Guede held Meredith Kercher down and sexually assaulted her as Sollecito and Amanda Knox stabbed and slashed her multiple times. In the court’s statements, it was Knox who “delivered the only mortal blow.”
Knox followed the court’s findings with a statement of her own , saying that the findings made by Italian judges were, “not supported by any credible evidence or logic.”
The most recent findings are expected to be appealed by both Knox and Sollecito. If appeals are denied, the lengthy extradition process will commence for Knox from the United States back to Italy.
Earlier in the year, Meredith Kercher’s family pleaded for Knox’s extradition in an attempt to gain closure from losing their child.
I think we are still on a journey for the truth and it may be the fact that we don’t ever really know what happened that night, which is obviously something we’ll have to come to terms with. We hope that we are nearer the end so that we can just start to remember Meredith for who she was and draw a line under it, as it were.
Resolution certainly seems to be on the horizon, but for a case that had been muddled from the start, we may never really know what transpired in the death of Meredith Kercher.
