In a recent interview with the noticeably withdrawn Melania Trump, Harper’s Bazaar reveals that there is a lot more going on behind the scenes than meets the eye.
The interview took place two months ago in November at the Trump penthouse in New York. Melania lives on the top three floors of the infamous Trump Tower with her husband, presidential candidate Donald Trump, and the couple’s 9-year-old son, Barron.
The description of the Trump residence made it seem more like a palace than a penthouse with its “Versailles-style hall of mirrors, a white marble fountain, and ceilings hand-painted with cherubs.” SNL hit the nail on the head a few months ago when the show made fun of Donald and Melania for their “humble gold house.”
But even though it may seem like the sky’s the limit for the wife of Trump, Melania knows when enough is enough. She mentioned another building, at the beginning of her interview, that can be seen across the city from her home. In comparison with the Trump Tower, this other residential building, despite still being in construction, is already 20 stories higher. Melania calls this “too much.”
It’s ironic for Melania Trump, who wears a 25-carat diamond ring, to be talking about others being over the top, but she does seem to practice what she preaches in most aspects of her life. Melania told the magazine that her son is the most important thing to her, and she doesn’t hire others to raise him for her.
“I don’t have a nanny. I have a chef, and I have my assistant, and that’s it. I do it myself. You know, those hours with your child are really important ones, even if it’s just the two of you, being quiet in the car together.”
Melania said she tries to make Barron’s life as easy and as normal as possible, especially since Trump started running for president. She said that she prepared Barron the best she could for what would come with his father’s campaign.
Melania is very supportive of her husband as well as he runs for the GOP nomination. And when she comes off as reserved or reticent, it’s all a part of the plan.
“I’m choosing not to go political in public because that is my husband’s job. I’m very political in private life, and between me and my husband I know everything that is going on. I follow from A to Z. But I chose not to be on the campaign. I made that choice. I have my own mind. I am my own person, and I think my husband likes that about me.”
Though Melania might have chosen to not play a very vocal role in her husband’s campaign, she made it clear that she supports Trump in other ways, and he has her full support. Melania said that she attends every debate with Trump, and she even videotapes it. When asked why she thinks Trump would be a good president, Melania answered that he has what it takes because he is such a great leader.
“He is a great leader—the best leader, an amazing negotiator. America needs that, and he believes in America. He believes in its potential and what it can be, because it is now in big trouble. I don’t want to go into it. I just believe he has what it takes to be an amazing president.”
Melania supports Trump completely, even his immigration policies. Melania herself is an immigrant, but she made it very clear that she “followed the rules.” Melania came to America from her home country of Slovenia to work in the fashion industry. Ten years after she first entered the country Melania became an American citizen, a year after she and Trump had married.
If Donald Trump is elected as president of the U.S., Melania Trump would be only the second First Lady not born in the United States.
