It seems like we’ve been hearing about Showtime’s Master’s Of Sex for years now. Lucky for us, we now have the heads up that filming actually took place, as the trailer has just made its debut online. The show stars Michael Sheen and Lizzy Caplan as sex researchers looking to unlock the secrets to human sexuality.

Masters of Sex, from the looks of it will give the viewer the inside learnings of all things sex, and then some. Of course we’re almost positive Showtime is hoping that this show will be edgy, and just from one viewing of the trailer, it definitely takes the word edgy and springs it up a notch. Masters of Sex follows the lives of Dr. William Howell Masters and Virginia Johnson, who are two researchers of human sexuality. The show is said to be based on their true story and their findings. The series is a one hour based drama, and so far 12 episodes have been shot for the first season. The show is said to be based on Thomas Maier’s biography, Masters of Sex: The Life and Times of William Masters and Virginia Johnson.

Although sex is spoken about in our media, it still remains to be one of the most taboo albeit fascinating topics, that we are still to this day trying to uncover the secrets to. Some entertainment has been criticized in the past for portrayed sex inaccurately, whether they were romanticizing it, or putting unrealistic expectations up on the big screen.

When asked how far Masters of Sex goes, Lizzy Caplan explains :

“It goes far. It goes crazy far! The explicit sex scenes were certainly not what drew me to it. There’s this strange thing about doing nudity on camera now, with the internet and everything. It was more that I was drawn to the character of Virginia Johnson, who I find to be the most fascinating woman. And a huge part of her personality and who she was, was a woman who was completely comfortable with her own sexuality, at a time where that was almost unheard of, in the Midwest during the 1950?s.
