Marvel’s Daredevil Already Shooting, Netflix Series Likely To Cross Over, Show Up In Movies

The Avengers and Guardians of the Galaxy aren’t the only properties Marvel is bringing to screens, and it looks like the House of Ideas has big plans for some of its lesser known characters. You might already know that Daredevil, Luke Cage, and more are coming to Netflix, but did you also know that they might show up in future Marvel movies?

Shooting has already begun on Marvel’s Daredevil, according to Netflix Chief Content Officer Ted Sarandos. Speaking with Empire Magazine ( via Collider ), Sarandos said that Daredevil is still on track for a 2015 release and that Marvel is already looking to lay the groundwork for the next production to appear on Netflix.

“Right now, the writers’ rooms are open and they’re looking at casting Jessica,” Sarandos said, apparently in reference to Jessica Jones, a much more obscure Marvel character that would mark Marvel’s second production with a female lead. Agent Carter, starring Peggy Carter, is set to debut on ABC in 2015.

With Daredevil set for 2015 and Jessica Jones apparently soon to follow, Marvel would still have Luke Cage and Iron Fist waiting in the wings to debut on Netflix. Those four together would eventually come together to form The Defenders. That supergroup would be sort of like Marvel’s Avengers, but in a more down-to-earth manner.

The plan, then, is to have each series establish itself over the course of a series and then to bring together all of Marvel’s Netflix heroes.

“Eventually,” Sarandos said, “the series will run very close together. You can then have a separate season where the characters will cross over.

“These are gritty crime stories, more in the streets than in the clouds,” Sarandos said.

The Daredevil series, reportedly, will be grittier than the widely panned Daredevil film was. That aesthetic will likely carry over into the other Netflix series as well.

Just because Marvel’s Netflix fare will be darker than what we’ve seen so far doesn’t mean that the two can never meet, though. Asked if there was any chance we might see Daredevil, Luke Cage, Jessica Jones, and Iron Fist hitting the silver screen, Sarandos gave a coy response.

“It has definitely been talked about,” he said.
