Even though the marriage of Mariah Carey and James Packer is off, she does not intend to walk away from the engagement empty handed. Carey wants what she was promised in their prenup, $50 million. Carey would receive $50 million if the marriage didn’t work out, so it seems she believes she is due the full amount since the engagement didn’t work out. Oh, and she says she’s keeping the really big diamond ring.
But why would Mariah Carey think she deserves a payday? Well, it seems that Mariah Carey is blaming Scientology for the end of her engagement to James Packer. Carey believes everything was going fine until Packer’s business manager, Tommy Davis, a former high up in the Scientology chain of command, started going through Packer’s expenses, and pointed out just how much money Mariah Carey was spending.

It sounds odd to some that Mariah Carey believes she is entitled to a consolation prize , says TMZ, but $50 million is the amount she would have walked away with if they broke up after their marriage, so that’s what she wants now. Until September, James Packer was pushing his reps to get the prenup done, even sending angry emails to his people to get on it.
“I don’t know who’s working for who because there are a lot of names I haven’t heard before on this email chain. The people who work for me — message — do as I say or f*** off. I want to get married on March 1st. James.”
But they couldn’t have married last March because Mariah Carey’s divorce from Nick Cannon hadn’t come through.

Even though the prenup wasn’t signed by either party, Mariah Carey is arguing that she is due the amount listed , which is $50 million, says the Daily Mail. At this point, she is calling the $50 million an “inconvenience fee,” as she uprooted her children and canceled some tour dates. But even though Mariah Carey believes Scientology is behind the breakup, sources are saying that the problems went deeper, as Packer’s family did not like Mariah Carey. Carey refused to attend Packer’s sister’s 50th birthday party in Australia.
“When she refused to come to Australia for Gretel’s birthday party it created a lot of tension in the family.”
And the list of people in James Packer’s life that were against the marriage continued to grow, as his mother wanted nothing to do with it.
“His mum hated to even hear her name mentioned, and James’ tight circle of friends never really thought they would marry.”
Another reason behind the split has to do with James Packer’s reluctance to participate in Mariah’s new reality show, Mariah’s World . A spokesperson for Mariah allegedly witnessed the final fight on the yacht in Greece.
“Mariah and James had a fight in Greece, and have not seen each other since. The fight was not because of any cheating allegations or excessive spending by Mariah.”
Carey’s people were under the impression that the two were still trying to work things out, but now it seems like they are just quibbling over money.
“James is one of the most successful businessmen in the world. They are trying to work it out.Right now, they’re not sure if they will stay together. They are discussing it, and plan to release an official statement together about their future.”

But Mariah Carey still believes she is owed at least the $50 million (plus her $10 million ring) because James Packer cost her money. She is not being subtle about collecting on the severance package , as she wants the money ASAP.
