Mariah Carey is happily flaunting her enormous engagement ring from her billionaire businessman beau James Packer. Although Carey confirmed that they’re engaged on January 21, there’s a tiny issue before the official wedding bells can ring. Mariah and James have both failed to finalize their divorces to the people they consider their ex-spouses, reported Us Weekly .
Carey technically remains married to Nick Cannon, who sent out a clever congratulations to his ex. In addition, Packer has not yet finalized his own divorce from Erica Packer.
Nick was the one who filed to divorce Mariah at the end of 2014. The couple had been married for six years. However, the divorce paperwork is not yet finalized, making Carey technically still married to her not-yet-ex husband.
Cannon revealed the details of the split in August 2014, revealing that he and Carey had chosen to live in separate homes for several months. Only two months later, Nick confirmed that a divorce was in the works and that he and Mariah were seeking to stay on good terms because they have a pair of 4-year-old twins, Moroccan and Monroe.
“It’s truly just staying focused on family and what’s right and getting through these times and just doing what’s right for the kids,” said Cannon. “We’ve always been people who are kinda on the go, coming and going, so their life hasn’t changed one bit. We spend holidays together, we do everything that we’re supposed to do together.”
About That Famous Engagement Ring Sported By Mariah Carey
As the Inquisitr reported, the engagement bling sported by Carey is more magnificent than even the most famous rings of recently wedded celebrities. While Packer gave Mariah a 35-carat diamond band, Kanye West made a production out of engaging Kim Kardashian with a Lorraine Schwartz cushion-cut diamond band of a mere 15 carats, and Beyonce is waving around an 18-carat Lorraine Schwartz diamond from Jay Z. Even Prince William failed to come up with a band for Kate Middeton that outdoes the 35-carat bling now owned by Mariah, because Princess Kate wears an 18-carat heirloom band.
Once the divorce does get finalized, it will be the third wedding for both Carey and James. Mariah previously was married to music executive Tommy Mottola prior to wedding actor Nick Cannon, from whom her divorce is pending. Packer was once wed to model Jodhi Meares as well as to his to-be-finalized-ex spouse singer and model Erica Baxter.
Nick Cannon Sends Congrats In A Very Unusual Way
As for how Nick reacted when he learned that Mariah was engaged, Cannon couldn’t resist turning the situation into one for LOL, reported People .
The photo was intended to mock those who thought he might resent the engagement announcement made by Carey. In the picture, Nick appears to have fainted, lying in a hospital bed. Kevin Hart plays his side-kick, trying to reassure him about that famous brilliant bling.
“Ha! This made me laugh out loud for real!!! HILARIOUS! #AllLove Congrats to @MariahCarey and James!May God Bless Your Future Union… #GreatPeople #GreatCouple,” wrote Cannon for his caption.
As for whether Nick himself will remarry when his divorce from Mariah does become final? Although Cannon , 35, emphasizes he remains on good terms with Carey, 45, he feels dubious that he’ll try his chances at wedded bliss again, he told DuJour .
Nick has succeeded as an actor (playing a Chicago gang leader in Chi-Raq) as well as entrepreneur, comedian, and father to his adorable twins. But, what about when it comes to marriage?
“I feel like marriage isn’t for everyone,” said Cannon decisively. “A friend of mine put it the funniest way. He said, ‘If you heard that there was a 50/50 chance of living or dying when you jump out of a plane, you probably wouldn’t go skydiving. There’s like a 50/50 chance of a marriage working. If it didn’t work out for you the first time, and you still survived it, you probably shouldn’t do it again.”
