Content Warning: The article mentions details about a tragic fall leading to death.

Jonathan Andic, the 45-year-old son of Mango fashion group’s Isak Andic, was arrested in Spain. His billionaire father died from a 100-meter fall during a hiking trip in December 2024.

The late fashion tycoon died after falling off a cliff while hiking in Montserrat Natural Park near Barcelona with Jonathan. Jonathan was the only witness besides the person who called emergency services. Before his father’s death, Jonathan served as global executive director of Mango Man. In 2025, he became vice chairman of Mango’s board.

Investigators initially closed the case in early 2025 after finding no evidence of criminal conduct and ruled it a tragic accident. The investigation reopened later that year after authorities found contradictions in Jonathan’s statements.

According to the BBC, Jonathan has previously denied any involvement in his father’s death. However, on May 19, 2026, the 45-year-old son of the prominent clothing brand was arrested on suspicion of homicide as the case reopened for investigation.

Andic was arrested by the Mossos d’Esquadra (Catalonia Police) at his home. He later appeared before Judge Raquel Nieto Galvan. The judge granted bail of €1 million and ordered him to surrender his passport. He must also make weekly court appearances while the alleged homicide investigation continues.

What was once considered an accident due to a fatal fall became one of the most eye-grabbing news stories that shocked the world and changed the Andic family’s fate.

According to Reuters, the Andic family released a statement defending Jonathan. The family insisted there was “no legitimate evidence against him” and expressed confidence that his innocence would be proven.

Additionally, Jonathan Andic’s defense lawyer, Cristobal Martell, condemned the homicide angle tied to Isak Andic’s death. He called it an inconsistent claim made to damage the reputation of an innocent person.

“But above all, it is painful. It stigmatizes an innocent man. Now the real process begins, and the truth and his innocence will shine through,” he said. Additionally, a spokesperson from the Andic family told the outlet that Jonathan would continue cooperating with authorities. The spokesperson also urged respect for the presumption of innocence.

Mango was founded by Isak Andic in 1984. It grew into one of Europe’s largest fast-fashion brands. The company now operates thousands of stores worldwide, including in the United States.

The fashion label now has about 2,900 stores in 120 markets globally. The fashion brand’s turnover reached nearly 3.8 billion euros ($4.4 billion) in 2025. That was an 11 percent increase from 2024. At the time of his death, Forbes estimated Isak Andic’s net worth at about $4.5 billion.

Jonathan Andic is the eldest of Isak Andic’s three children. He is also among the heirs to the billionaire’s estate. The Andic family moved from Turkey to Spain during Isak Andic’s early years. Eventually, the 45-year-old followed in his father’s footsteps and joined the team of one of Europe’s leading fast fashion makers. Previously,  Mango CEO Toni Ruiz had mourned Isak’s death and said it would “leave a huge void,” adding: “All of us are, in some way, his legacy and the testimony of his achievements.”
