Manchester United is making one last attempt to sign Real Madrid’s Gareth Bale before the end of the transfer window according to ESPN . Manchester United is testing the resolve of Real Madrid’s interest in Spanish goalkeeper David De Gea and the transfer bid could be enough to prize the Welsh winger away from the Spanish capital.
Manchester United’s transfer dealings have not led to great success despite the capture of Bastian Schweinsteiger and Memphis Depay. Pedro Rodriguez and Thomas Müller were targets missed by the Old Trafford club this summer. Van Gaal has made reference that he is not keen on adding to his current selection of strikers.
Manchester United has been known admirers of Gareth Bale and have been etched to sign another forward to support Wayne Rooney. United have already failed to sign Sergio Ramos after he signed a new contract with Real Madrid, but Bale could be tempted to leave Madrid after his rocky relationship with Cristiano Ronaldo and the Madrid fans.
However, the Real president, Florentino Perez, was responsible for signing the Welsh winger back in 2013 and is reluctant to selling him despite his failure to integrate into a system with Cristiano Ronaldo.
Manchester United have qualified for the group stages of the UEFA Champions League after 7-1 aggregate win against Belgium’s Club Brugge. Louis Van Gaal believes that his team could go on to win the Champions League.
In an interview with the club’s website, Manutd , Van Gaal compared his current squad to that of his Ajax team that conquered the competition in 1995.
“They were still younger at that time as we won the final with 18 and 19-year-olds,” he said.
“We have players like Michael Carrick and Bastian Schweinsteiger and at that time it was Frank Rijkaard and Danny Blind who were above the 30-year mark. I believe in the mix. Yes, I believe we can win the Champions League and I believe more in the mix of ages than players only from 27 to 34. We have a lot of young players like McNair and Blackett. Johnstone showed his talents in the USA, for example, and they are not so old. We have a great selection of 25 or 26 players. We have the two older guys, so I think our mixture is good but you cannot compare it with the mixture that I had in 1995.”
