Malcolm Young, one of AC/DC’s founders, has been confirmed by his family to have dementia.
This is the reason for 61-year-old Malcolm Young’s retirement from the band. However, AC/DC has recently confirmed that they will be coming out with a new album called Rock Or Bust . This was before Malcolm Young’s dementia was released to the public. According to a report by Inquisitr.com , Phil Rudd said that AC/DC would not retire because of Malcolm Young’s illness. “Angus Young will never retire,” Rudd said. “We were never going to retire. It’ll never happen. Angus will never retire and as long as Angus never retires I won’t f***ing retire either.” Since Malcolm Young had to quit because of dementia, Steve Young filled in for him. Steve Young is Malcolm’s nephew and now he is taking his uncle’s role in the world tour that is set for after Rock Or Bust is released.
Malcolm’s family told People , “Malcolm is suffering from dementia and the family thanks you for respecting their privacy.”
When Malcolm’s health seemed to be getting better in the hospital, Brian young said,”We miss Malcolm, obviously. He’s a fighter. He’s in [the] hospital, but he’s a fighter. We’ve got our fingers crossed that he’ll get strong again…Stevie, Malcolm’s nephew, was magnificent, but when you’re recording with this thing hanging over you and your work mate isn’t well, it’s difficult. But I’m sure [Malcolm] was rooting for us.”
Rock Or Bust will be the band’s first album in 6 years and it will be the band’s first album without Malcolm Young in 41 years. “Rock Or Bust” will have eleven new AC/DC songs when it comes out on December 2nd. Malcolm’s nephew will also be playing for Malcolm in this album .
“ Rock or Bust is the first AC/DC album in the band’s 41 year history without founding member Malcolm Young on the recordings. Earlier this year AC/DC released a statement explaining that due to illness, Malcolm would be taking a break from the band. Unfortunately, due to the nature of Malcolm’s condition, he will not be returning to the band. AC/DC will undertake a world tour in support of Rock or Bust in 2015. Stevie Young, nephew of founding members Angus and Malcolm Young, plays rhythm guitar on ‘Rock or Bust’ and will accompany the band on tour.”
