Lady Gaga is no stranger to Madonna fans attacking her over songs that sound incredibly similar to the Queen of Pop. On her last album, the song Born This Way was widely compared to Madonna’s Express Yourself. This time around, it’s the singers song Applause which is being compared to Madonna’s tune Girl Gone Wild.

It literally only took seconds for Madonna fans to attack the song after it was released on iTunes.

So did Lady Gaga rip off Madonna? You can listen to the song mashup (posted above) and decide for yourself. However, it should be noted that Madonna’s song was only released in 2012. There’s the very real chance that both women were writing and recording their songs around the same time.

On the other hand, music fans pretty much believe everyone plagiarizes their favorite musicians. A few days before this new claim, Madonna fans said Katy Perry’s song Roar was nothing more than a plagiarized version of Sara Bareilles single Brave.

While Express Yourself and Born This Way did share a lot of similarities, the only thing Applause and Girl Gone Wild seem to share is a love for the Euro-house genre. That particular form of music often shares similarity in rhythm, beats, etc.

So is Lady Gaga ripping off Madonna again? The simple answer is no. On the other hand, the mashup that was created to showcase the two songs is actually really catchy. Perhaps the two superstars of pop music will work together one day. They could borrow elements from Lady Gaga and Madonna’s music and probably create the next big hit of summer.

Do you think Lady Gaga ripped off Madonna for Applause, or is the genre of music to blame for catchy tunes that work well together?
