Famed musician Lou Reed is reportedly back home after being rushed to the hospital yesterday morning for dehydration.

The rock guitarist, vocalist, and former Velvet Underground frontman received a liver transplant at a Cleveland hospital in May.

Reed, 71, who lives in East Hampton, N.Y. on Long Island, was taken to the Southampton Hospital emergency room on Sunday after he became nauseous and repeatedly vomited according to TMZ . Fortunately he is now said to be feeling fine.

Apparently responding EMTs at first thought his body might be rejecting the new liver.

The rock icon returned to the stage for the first time after the major surgery at the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity in late June.

Reed, the “Walk on the Wild Side” soloist, was in a very bad way before receiving a new liver according to wife Laurie Anderson but has been in recovery. “It’s as serious as it gets. He was dying. You don’t get it for fun.” Reed cancelled several concert dates, including Coachella, in April without a specific explanation at the time other than a vague reference to unavoidable complications.

Added Anderson in discussing his transplant procedure: “I don’t think he’ll ever totally recover from this, but he’ll certainly be back to doing [things] in a few months. He’s already working and doing tai chi . I’m very happy. It’s a new life for him.”

Reed has acknowledged his issues with alcohol and drugs in the past and even wrote a song as a member of The Velvent Underground called “Heroin.”

In an interview last month, Reed referenced his health challenges and mortality according to the New York Post : “How could time go that quickly? The other day, I was 19. I could fall down and get back up. Now if I fall down, you are talking about nine months of physical therapy.”
