The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim traveled to Brooklyn to play a three game series against the New York Mets. Prior to this meeting, the Mets had gone on a seven game losing streak, which they snapped with a win over the Angels in the first game. The Mets won the game 3-0 with one run each in the first, sixth, and seventh innings. The Angels had six hits and two errors to end the game. DeGrom had quite the game, but according to CBS Los Angeles, he had a rough patch that the Angels weren’t able to capitalize on.

With the Mets leading 2-0, deGrom walked C.J. Cron, was visited by pitching coach Dan Warthen and then hit Martin Maldonado with a 3-1 pitch to load the bases before striking out Danny Espinosa with a 96 mph fastball for the first out.

Pinch hitter Ben Revere then blooped a ball to shallow center that Reyes bobbled and caught. Andrelton Simmons broke from third base when the ball hit Reyes in the palm of his glove, then had to hurry back when the ball popped into the air. Reyes finished the catch, and then Maybin flied out.

In the second game, the Mets came away with another win and the final score was 7-5. The Angels rallied in the ninth for three runs, but were unable to come up with two more to tie up the game. Mike Trout took the plate with the Angels down 7-4 and the bases loaded. The Mets considered walking him with the bases loaded instead of giving him the chance to secure the lead with a grand slam or even tying it up with a triple. However, the Mets were lucky enough to have that not happen. Instead, Trout hit a sacrifice fly. The Mets got out of another bases situation thanks to Addison Reed and were able to hold on to their lead and win by two runs.

The final game in the series took place today. The Angels jumped out to a quick 9-0 lead by the third inning before the Mets scored a run in the bottom of the third. The Mets scored again in the fifth but still remained down by seven points. In the bottom of the sixth, the Mets showed some signs of coming back. Jay Bruce hit a home run with two men on base, which brought the score to 9-5.

The Angels returned the favor and score three more runs in the top of the seventh. Going into the ninth inning, the Angels held a 12-5 lead. It was quite the opposite of their performance in the previous two games. Bud Norris closed out the pitching for the Angels. He quickly got two outs with just seven throws. For the final out of the game, Matt Reynolds hit the ball out to Kole Calhoun in right field. The Angels somewhat redeemed themselves with this game and were able to leave Brooklyn with a win.

Overall, it wasn’t the best series for the Angels, but maybe they can get some momentum going with the big win in the final game. The Mets can be glad that they ended their losing streak and see if they can get back in a groove, as well. The Angels now have a.500 record with 23 wins an loses. The Mets are a bit under.500 with 18 wins and 24 loses. The Los Angeles Angels will head to Tampa Bay to take on the Rays in a four game series. The New York Mets will play the San Diego Padres at home for a three game series.
