Lori Loughlin played wife to John Stamos for four years on Full House , but off-screen she said the two actors just couldn’t make their love connection work.
Loughlin actually dated John Stamos, long before they jointed the hit ABC sitcom. Stamos, who would later go on to marry and then divorce Rebecca Romjin, even referred to Lori Loughlin as “ the one who got away .”
“And we actually did date, we went on a date to Disneyland before we were both married. In real life, when we were 18, 19,” John Stamos said. “We did have some off timing, but no disrespect to her family and her husband now, I would say that she could be the one that got away.”
Stamos said he and Loughlin remained good friends after the show, but he watched from afar as she moved on to the other men in her life. Lori married investment banker Michael R. Burns, divorcing in 1996, and married again in 1997 to fashion designer Mossimo Giannulli.
Loughlin said she too had an interest in dating Stamos, but the two just couldn’t get the timing right. While they were appearing on Full House together — playing husband and wife and co-caretakers for Danny Tanner and his three girls — one or the other was always in a relationship, she recalls.
“We were great friends, we had a really good rapport and we have chemistry,” Loughlin said. “I was actually married [to Michael R. Burns] at the time I was doing the show and then I got divorced, and when I got divorced he met Rebecca and he got married. So our timing was just really off so I don’t think it really even entered our minds that it would be something more.”
While Lori Loughlin couldn’t get her timing right with John Stamos, she ended up with something of a full house of her own. She and Giannulli have two daughters together.
