Lorde Claims Lana Del Rey, Nicki Minaj Are ‘Completely Irrelevant’

Lorde apparently doesn’t think much of Lana Del Rey , Nicki Minaj, or Drake.

Since everyone has an opinion to share these days about the music industry and the people in it, the New Zealand-born singer decided to share her thoughts about some of the more popular recording artists currently doing their thing. According to the teenager, some of these popular individuals are simply irrelevant.

During her recent chat with Interview magazine , Lorde weighed in on the likes of Lana Del Rey and Nicki Minaj. Although she admitted to listening to their music, the “Royals” singer began to wonder why she was wasting her time with these people in the first place.

Lorde explained:

“Around the middle of last year I started listening to a lot of rap, like Nicki Minaj and Drake, as well as pop singers like Lana Del Rey. They all sing about such opulence, stuff that just didn’t relate to me—or anyone that I knew. I began thinking, ‘How are we listening to this? It’s completely irrelevant.’ I basically just wrote what we were all thinking.”

Of course, this isn’t the first time the teenager felt the need to share some unfriendly words about her fellow singers. The Mercury News points out that she also took issue with Taylor Swift and Selena Gomez earlier this year. Since people think she spends more time criticizing and performing, Lorde decided to defend her right to express herself.

She told MTV back in October:

“I think there’s a funny culture in music that’s only happened over the last 15 years, that if you have an opinion about something in music that isn’t 100-percent good, you’re a ‘hater,’ even if you have perfectly reasonable grounds for that critique. People will say exactly what they think about a movie or a TV show, and that’s fine, but as soon as you say it about a record, you’re like some little zombie in a funny dungeon.”

Once Lorde’s comments about Lana Del Rey, Nicki Minaj, and Drake started making the rounds online, the singer felt the need to clear things up on Twitter. Apparently she believes these comments were taken completely out of context, which is always the go-to argument for people with persistent foot-in-mouth syndrome.

What do you think about Lorde’s comments regarding Lana Del Rey, Nicki Minaj, and Drake? Do you feel the stuff they sing about it “irrelevant”?
