A new poster for the upcoming Lindsay Lohan flick The Canyons has arrived online.

After getting kicked around Hollywood without a distributor, the folks at IFC Films ultimately decided to take a chance on the little movie nobody wanted. Fans of the troubled actress will finally get an opportunity to see the film next month.

Written by American Psycho scribe Bret Easton Ellis and directed by Paul Schrader, the film tells the story of life, love, and suffering in the wilds of Hollywood. Despite the amount of talent behind the camera, the flick was rejected by a number of prominent film festivals.

Ellis said in the official press release that Lindsay Lohan and her character Tara have a lot of similarities. The author believes this helped the Mean Girls star deliver a noteworthy performance.

“She was probably going through something close to Tara, which was kind of like being trapped. I think she related that to Tara, and that’s why that performance feels very lived in, it feels very real,” he explained.

The writer told MTV News that the filmmakers didn’t approach Lohan for the role. Instead, she came to them.

“I thought, ‘No this is not a good idea. It’s gonna change the DNA of the movie,’ but I changed my mind when I saw the audition. She gave the best performance out of any of the people we saw,” Ellis explained.

Nearly a year after the project started making the festival circuit, The Canyons will finally be available for mass consumption. The film will arrive on VOD and in a handful of theaters next Friday (August 2).
