The Met Gala is known to be one of the hottest celebrity-filled fashion nights of the year, but according to Lena Dunham and Amy Schumer, they will most likely not be attending the event again in 2017, especially not if Odell Beckham, Jr. will be there.
On Friday Dunham’s Lenny Letter was published, which was mainly an interview she did with Schumer in relation to her new book, and in it she revealed how much of a horrible time both she and Schumer had at the Met Gala night. It seems that the main problem that was had is with the seating arrangements and the company they were forced to endure because of it. More specifically, Lena Dunham complained that she had been seated next to football player and current love interest of Khloe Kardashian, Odell Beckham, Jr. According to the Daily Mail , guests at the Met Gala are given a very strict table seating plan to abide by and it appears that it did not go well this time.

Before they let on about their terrible time at the Met Gala though, Dunham wrote that the interview touched on the fact that Amy Schumer had initially auditioned to join Girls as the “innocent Juicy Couture lover obsessed with emoji” Shoshanna but that Amy was not meant to play such a character. They also went on to speak of how they both got to this stage of their careers, the level where they can get the opportunity to be attending the prestigious Met Gala event, a thing Dunham had done many times.
After this they brought up their Met Gala experience and how they were sitting across from each other and could tell that they were only counting down till when they could escape, and Schumer happily revealed later about the truth of it and she actually followed through and left early. Lena Dunham was actually the one to swing the talk to her sitting by Beckham, Jr., seeming to say that the New York wide receiver had found her wanting and it contributed to her wanting to leave so badly that night.
“I was sitting next to Odell Beckham Jr., and it was so amazing because it was like he looked at me and he determined I was not the shape of a woman by his standards. He was like, ‘That’s a marshmallow. That’s a child. That’s a dog.’ It wasn’t mean — he just seemed confused.”
She even went on state that the dismissal was entirely focused on him internally declaring that she lacked any sexual appeal.
“The vibe was very much like, ‘Do I want to f**k it? Is it wearing a … yep, it’s wearing a tuxedo. I’m going to go back to my cell phone.’ It was like we were forced to be together, and he literally was scrolling Instagram rather than have to look at a woman in a bow tie. I was like, ‘This should be called the Metropolitan Museum of Getting Rejected by Athletes.’”
Amy Schumer was quick to compliment the other woman on her bra-less tuxedo outfit and her appreciation of the several glimpses of Dunham’s breasts that she saw.

Despite the tone that Dunham sets in this instance of the Lenny Letter series, Jezebel writer Julianne Escobedo Shepherd pointed out that perhaps Lena should not get to interpret how Odell Beckham felt about her simply because he chose to be on his phone instead of speaking to her. She also tosses back the suggestion that Dunham was fixating on that seating beside Odell and how she thinks he looked at her, just so she can overemphasize the tale of her not fitting into a certain fashion or beauty ideal.
Beckham has not yet responded to Lena Dunham’s interpretation of his actions at the Met Gala.
