Legends of Tomorrow, the new DC Comics spin-off, mini-Justice League-like show is on its way at long last. Four more days and fans will meet a new comic book adaptation, a semi-new cast, a new Firestorm, and a lot of potential. So far, The Flash and Arrow fans have yet to hear from the new Firestorm Franz Drameh, and just how his version is different from Ronnie Raymond’s. Drameh explains that Jax and Ronnie are quite different indeed.
“Well, Jax does not want to be a hero. Like, he does not want these powers, but at the end of the day, when it comes down to it, he has to step up and kind of embrace it and do his job. So, yeah, this Jax is more of a… I mean, he’s an athlete. He’s an ex-high school athlete working as a mechanic when he becomes Firestorm. So it’s a very different character to Ronnie Raymond, who we’ve previously seen.”
As anyone anticipating DC’s Legends of Tomorrowknows, not every character will make it out of the season 1 alive, so one might imagine any actor in this show might be a little jittery. Especially for a man playing the second version of an established character, Franz Drameh must be a little nervous, but that is not the case according to the Firestorm actor himself.
“‘Oh, made it! Oh, made it!’ I really wouldn’t want to say “worried” I’m not really worried about that kind of stuff. I kind of just take each episode as it comes and just look forward to reading a good ep and can’t wait to film it.”
Like most actors who have read the book or books of something they are acting out the adaptation such material naturally have scenarios or characters they would like to see come to the screen as well. Franz Drameh had one such request.
“Oh…Static Shock would be fun. Static Shock. I do like Static. Yeah, it’d be fun. Static would be cool.”
Static, being a DC Comics character, and Static Shock being an animated version of the character. So far, there are no plans to bring Franz Drameh’s favorite character to the big or small screen. Franz Drameh’s Firestorm might be new the DCTV universe, Wentworth Miller’s Captain Cold is certainly not, but the direction of the character in recent memory has changed.
Many were assuming his inclusion into Legends of Tomorrowwould be his Earth-2 counterpart Citizen Cold, who was a hero in The Flash comics. This no longer seems to be the case, but the question as to whether he is now good or not is still up to debate. IGNdecided to delve into this line of thought in an interviewwith Captain Cold himself Wentworth Miller.
“I think he may judge himself as a man with a certain kind of past, a certain record, and maybe hero status is not for him. Maybe he’s not worthy. However, through the course of his experience time traveling and working with Rip and the others, he starts to connect, build relationships, bond unexpectedly, and grows and changes as a result. I hope he always holds onto his edge, his darkness and his humor, but we do start to see him sit more squarely in his shades of gray.”
So, there will certainly be some changes for Wentworth Miller’s Captain Cold, but it would be premature to presuppose that he will just suddenly go from villain to hero in one season of Legends of Tomorrow . Then there is the fact the Wentworth Miller, Franz Drameh, or any of the others might make it out alive, so then it wouldn’t matter anyways.
