Today in Korean film and dramas, there are plenty of Korean actors and actresses who became household names internationally. Just recently, both Song Joong Ki and Song Hye Kyo either achieved or enforced such status with their roles in this year’s best K-drama thus far, Descendants of the Sun . However, there are plenty of other actors of K-dramas and K-movies who are on par with them. Some of the actors and actresses (with their current or upcoming acting projects) include Park Shin Hye ( Doctors ), Kim Woo Bin ( Uncontrollably Fond ), and Lee Min Ho ( Legend of the Blue Sea ).
Another popular Korean actor who is getting a lot of attention recently is Lee Jong Suk. He is known for roles in School 2013 , I Hear Your Voice , and Doctor Stranger , but most notably, Pinocchio . Jong Suk’s chemistry with co-star Park Shin Hye was so good on that K-drama that it has been the reason for numerous photo shoots as well as rumors of dating .
Now, Lee Jong Suk will try to recreate such chemistry with Han Hyo Joo in his current K-drama W.Apparently, both Hallyu stars are still getting a feel for each other as a behind-the-scenes video shows just how adorably shy and embarrassed both Lee Jong Suk and Han Hyo Joo got during their first kiss scene.
The behind-the-scenes footage and videos were released on July 25 and featured the first kiss between Lee Jong Suk and Han Hyo Joo in the second episode, as reported by AllKpop . Apparently, Jong Suk is embarrassed right after Hyo Joo kisses his lips. Jong Suk then places his fingers on his lips as if he can’t believe what just happened. Hyo Joo also showed her shyness too as she hid her face in her hands and turned away after the kiss. And to make things even more adorable, there was a part in the behind-the-scenes video when Jong Suk actually questioned the kiss followed by running away from the camera, as reported by Soompi . Lee Jong Suk actually runs away twice; the second time Han Hyo Joo teased him and how red his face has become.
Though Lee Jong Suk and Han Hyo Joo are professionals, it should be noted the kiss was recorded while filming for the second episode. This means both Jong Suk and Hyo Joo might not have established enough of a rapport yet in which both would be comfortable with such a scene. As mentioned earlier, Jong Suk and Hyo Joo had to film the scene multiple times just to “get it right.” Despite this, the production team praised the two for their efforts.
“Though it was the beginning of the filming, they displayed a unique chemistry that resulted in a perfect scene.”
W is the K-drama currently airing on the Munhwa Broadcasting Corporation (MBC) in the time slot previously occupied by Lucky Romance. It is about Oh Yeon Joo (Han Hyo Joo), a cardiothoracic surgeion, who is looking for her father, a webtoon artist who went missing while writing the last chapter of his current webtoon W. While searching for her father in his workshop, Yeon Joo finds another man lying on the ground who happens to be Kang Chul (Lee Jong Suk), the main character of W. This happenstance meeting commences a love story between a woman from the real world and a man from a webtoon.
As of now, four episodes of W have aired and the viewership ratings are constantly climbing; the average for the Seoul National Capital Area is about 14.5 percent and the average for the nation is about 13 percent. These viewership rating numbers are also a major lead ahead of the competition, Uncontrollably Fond , which looks like it will become the most disappointing K-drama of 2016 unless KBS does something.
W airs on Wednesdays and Thursdays on MBC at 10 p.m. KST. For those who don’t have access to Korean channels, W can be watched, depending on your region, for free with ads on streaming site Viki .
