LeAnn Rimes is wearing her support for National Coming Out Day on her finger.
The country music singer and reality television star tweeted a picture of herself wearing an “Equality Ring,” a symbol of love that transcends sexual orientations.
Rimes also included a link to a store selling the rings, which offered a description of its meaning:
“The Equality Ring is especially designed and dedicated for those expressing their commitment, support, and love. The equality symbol honors united couples who fought and prevailed during the equal rights movement in the new Millennium.”
National Coming Out Day celebrates the anniversary of the National March on Washington for Lesbian and Gay Rights, which took place 25 years ago. The day is intended to celebrate coming out as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, or as an ally
LeAnn Rimes has been vocal as an ally of the gay rights movement in the past. Last year, as she was filing a lawsuit against two women who taped a phone conversation without her consent, Rimes vowed to donate and proceeds to The Trevor Project, which operates a suicide hotline for gay and questioning youth.
“ LeAnn had always planned on giving any proceeds from the pending lawsuits to The Trevor Project,” a rep for the singer said at the time. “This is a cause she has always been passionate about.”
