Marvel fans were promised a Civil War between Earth’s Mightiest, and a newly leaked clip from Avengers: Age of Ultron makes it look like the split between Captain America and Iron Man will be happening sooner rather than later.
The new Age of Ultron clip comes courtesy of YouTube user kjhcj — with a tip o’ the hat to Cinema Blend — and shows Captain America and Iron Man chopping it up out of costume. The audio is a bit hard to make out, but it seems like something big has gone down, something involving one of Age of Ultron ‘s new additions, Scarlet Witch .
The two Avengers are talking over the team’s encounter with the Scarlet Witch, and it looks like not everything went well for Earth’s Mightiest.
“She pulled us apart like cotton candy,” Captain America says to Iron Man, directly after pointing out that he doesn’t know what the Scarlet Witch did to him, just that “she made you do something stupid.”
It’s hard to judge just what anything means in this scene since it’s taken out of context, but it looks as though the Scarlet Witch has revealed a number of hidden secrets to the Avengers — secrets that threaten to tear the team apart.
Thor has apparently taken off to go find “answers” to an unrevealed issue, and Tony Stark has apparently done something “stupid” enough to make Captain America rip a log in two out of anger. Could the Scarlet Witch’s revelations have been what caused that one super-dejected shot on the plane in the Avengers: Age of Ultron trailer?
Of course, the big thread running through the clip is the growing rift between the two pillars of the Avengers franchise: Captain America and Iron Man. As Cinema Blend points out, this dates back to the original Avengers movie where Rogers and Stark almost came to blows before the Helicarrier was attacked.
Marvel has already revealed that the Avengers are bound for some sort of split , since the title of the third Captain America film is Captain America: Civil War . It looks like the battle lines will be drawn right down the middle between Rogers and Stark, and the rest of the Avengers — or whatever is left of them — will have to choose sides.
Avengers: Age of Ultron will lay out the groundwork for Marvel’s forthcoming Phase 3 , which will see new movies for not just Captain America and Thor, but Ant-Man, Doctor Strange, the Black Panther , and Captain Marvel. Whether the Marvel Cinematic Universe looks at all like it does now by that time, though, is totally up in the air.
