More than 200 teens gathered at the Lauderhill Mall this week for a fight.
It’s unclear what caused the fight, but police believe that the teens organized the brawl through social media.
Lauderhill Lt. Michael Butkus said: “I don’t know what the motive was for using the mall or why they would want to fight.”
The Huffington Post reports that an argument earlier in the day between two girls may have sparked the Lauderhill Mall fight. Police also believe that the fight may have been related to a disagreement about the Trayvon Martin case.
One witness told CBS Miami : “I just heard that anybody that had beef with each other is supposed to come over here and fight.”
The mall was on partial lockdown for about two hours as police tried to stop the chaos. No one was arrested during the fight, but Lauderhill Police Lt. Mike Butkus said that officers stayed on the scene after the fight to make sure that nothing else happened.
Butkus said: “The police presence was meant to show that we would not tolerate anyone breaking the law… We’re not going to tolerate that kind of activity.”
