Lara Croft: Reflections has been trademarked by Square Enix. While there isn’t much known about what the title is related to, we do know that the trademark was filed in the “video games” category.
The Tomb Raider reboot has been a smashing success for Square Enix since it was was released two weeks ago and it seems the company is wanting to seize the momentum.
Since the game was released, it has sat atop the sales charts in Europe and recently saw more than one million people play it inside the first two days of its release. So what exactly is this new title?
There is some speculation that this could actually be a a tag along game on the Vita or 3DS. Others believe that this is the name of a full fledged sequel. We do know, from comments made by the game’s developers, that more Tomb Raiders are on the way.
Lara Croft: Reflections sounds like a title of a game that could follow up the game that showed how she became who she is. Karl Stewart, the Global Brands Director for Crytal Dynamics, the studio that built Lara that he knew exactly where her story was going to go.
In the interview, Stewart said that, “future games will be defined by who Lara has become as a result of who she is at the end of this experience.” Perhaps the most interesting factoid is that if they company does know where they are going with the series, they aren’t moving incredibly quickly.
The trademark was filed on March 15 , so the studio and the company weren’t in a hurry to get this name trademarked. That could simply be because they knew no one else was going to run out and grab this name.
Its also possible that the name has recently taken center stage for Square Enix.
